I didn't used to have a very strong opinion on America's relationship with Israel.
But now I am beginning to feel strongly about it. Funny how politics works, ain't it?

1. Yeah. Kind of like how nobody gives a shit about ethanol subsidies
until the Iowa caucuses.

2. There's probably no more stupid & self-destructive long term policy of the U.S. than that one

Unless maybe it's the long term energy policy that this country pursued after Carter left office. Two stupidities that over time combine with a lethal synergy.

3. Yup. I have long held the view that the only way to get a negotiated settlement for Israel...
..is for the US to quit being a sugar-daddy and cut off all military aid. Once they realize they are one their own, I believe they would be much more willing to negotiate and compromise...But right now they are acting like so many Trust-Fund Babys backed up by their rich Daddies money and influence...

5. I used to feel minor irritation at our support, but I am growing weary
of those who make propping it up so important as to sacrifice our quality of life here.

6. This is a prime example of the religious right's influence.
It doesn't all come from them, of course, but they do heavily oppose cutting off any aid to Israel. They think we must defend it for Jesus to return.
