Grayson: GOP crowd justifies my ‘Die quickly’ comment

Remember then U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson’s now-famous description of the Republican Party’s health-care plan: “Don’t get sick…And if you do, die quickly.” Conservatives immediately jumped on the Orlando Democrat’s blistering comments, made on the House floor in 2010, turning them into Exhibit A to demonstrate Grayson’s willingness to defy convention — and, some said, appropriate behavior, if not taste, in promoting his brand of aggressive liberalism. Lingering objection to that remark clearly played a role in Webster’s loss last fall to Dan Webster.

But last night’s Republican debate in Tampa gave Grayson cause to say “I told you so” — and he has. When U.S. Rep. Ron Paul was asked by moderator Wolf Blitzer who Paul thought should pay for a hypothetical uninsured comatose patient who needed six months of intensive treatment. “Are you saying society should just let him die?” asked Blitzer.

1. But Grayson was so MEAN when he said it
So it doesn't count. Besides, I have it on very good authority that nobody in that audience last night will ever get sick, or run through their insurance, or outlive their money. And nobody they know, and nobody they're related to will, either. So there! The rest of you are just a bunch of socialists trying to take their money. And they won't stand for it! They won't, They Won't, They WON'T!

3. "Really -- I mean if people would just take better care of themselves . . ."
Yes, I have actually had someone say that to me in the midst of discussions over the health care legislation!

7. Judging from just looking at the audience
a healthy lifestyle doesn't exist for them and they are more than probably on some type of state or gov plan.

10. If you eat expensive food from Whole Foods
and pray to Jesus every day you won't get sick. Ever.

11. If you pray to Jesus

To stay healthy, he may give you the gift of health, but if you get sick, then that is 'his plan' for you and even if you die, that's what he wants, because he needs you in heaven.
