GOP grumbles about jobs plan

House Republicans may pass bits and pieces of President Barack Obama’s jobs plan, but behind the scenes, some Republicans are becoming worried about giving Obama any victories — even on issues the GOP has supported in the past.

And despite public declarations about finding common ground with Obama, some Republicans are privately grumbling that their leaders are being too accommodating with the president.

“Obama is on the ropes; why do we appear ready to hand him a win?” said one senior House Republican aide who requested anonymity to discuss the matter freely. “I just don’t want to co-own the economy by having to tout that we passed a jobs bill that won’t work or at least won’t do enough.”

Even with the presence of so many GOP-friendly provisions in Obama’s plan — like trade agreements and small-business tax relief — some senior lawmakers are pulling back, wondering how the president will ensure his initiatives will not add to the nation’s debt.

3. Indeed. Careful, GOP. Your priorities are showing!
Although, to be truthful, don't think they worry about showing their priorities, just their methods to attain them.

2. "I just don't want to co-own the economy..." Uhh, dude, seriously. Obama inherited this economy.
From you freakin' weasels. You crashed us into the ditch with 8 years of total mayhem and reckless disregard for the nation. Not only do you co-own this economy, you're the responsible party.

5. As much as I detest the GOP even I know that they arent 100% at fault.

The dems share in *some* of it, not as much compared to the republicans of course who own the lion share of the current mess.

19. The repukes insisted on tax cuts for wealthy - wasted money
They own the part failed, not the part that worked (infrastructure spending, unemployment, aid to states) which they fought against.

They also own the part that made it too small to be effective.

Not too mention of course it was their policies under Bush and Raygun that got us into this mess in the first place.

8. Wouldnt suprise me if that had been their plan
all along, the mistake the ones running the party (you know the ultra wealthy) are making though is the same one they made in france a few hundred years ago which is that we (the average people who arent wealthy) outnumber them and even a large animal can be brought down by something as small as a mouse if the mouse has enough numbers.

18. This is indeed the RepubliCon plan. They are on the record wishing for America to fail
and of course their actions against America speak even louder than their words...

7. They don't even try to hide it anymore, do they?
Too tired to use code words?

This should be shouted across the nation to make those who are looking for work aware of who it is that keeps slamming the doors. "I've got mine...too bad you can't find yours!"

Idiots! They make me sick.

20. It's not that they're too tired to use code words - it's that they now
don't give a shit. They smell blood in the water and believe all they have to do is to continue with the obstructionism that has characterized them up to now, and Obama is toast in 2012. Wish I could believe they're not right, but...

about co-owning an improving economy that would prove their thesis of reaganomics wrong. It's one thing to do crazy, it's another if everybody knows you're crazy, but if you admit to being crazy, you're lost.

12. They do not realize that they are the ones on the ropes. Either way
they lose. If they pass the bill and he gets the unemployment rate down - he wins. If they refuse to pass it - the president has made it very plain that it will be their fault - they lose. Is speech the other night sealed the deal.

16. Yeah...not holding my breath in having the President or anyone
hold the rethugs accoutable.

Obama can lose this, just watch.

I hope he doesn't, I hope his jobs plan creates a 100 million jobs and gets everyone back to work. But past experience has shown me that he won't go for the big win- he will go for the half compromise and lose.

17. Republican double-speak.
Edited on Mon Sep-12-11 10:50 AM by toddwv
“To assume that we’re naturally for these things because we’ve been for them does not mean we will be for them if they cause debt, if they tax increases and if they take money from the free-enterprise sector, which creates jobs,” said Texas Rep. Pete Sessions

Means:

"Just because we were for these things doesn't mean that we are for these things now that Obama is proposing them."

Seriously, every time these people get elected, I lose faith in the American people...
