| Ok, this is Weird. Why does FaceBook 'selectively' make user accounts 'unavailable'? |
|
Why is it that when I try to log in it tells me my 'account is currently unavailable due to a site issue', yet I can access FB through my son's profile, and another from my system?
The only reason I'm really curious is that I attempted to post something with the acronym 'PNAC', and suddenly I'm locked out. I know, it's not likely something insidious, but am I the only one?
- Just curious.

| 1. Ok, that's just weird. I logged in under two other accounts just fine. |
|
But FB says that I can't log in to my own account due to 'site maintenance'.
I didn't realize that only some profiles are affected by 'site maintenance' while almost all others are not.
That's just strange. Anyone have the code know-how to explain this?

I hate facebook. At least DU warns people when the site will be down.
Would it be so hard for FB to tell the people in whatever database they're updating that "Tomorrow at 4 am, you may not be able to blah blah blah...."?
Oh well.

| 7. I get that, but there's also 'redundancy'. |

I suppose that facebook, from a logistics perspective, is spread pretty thin in relation to its scope of service. The model probably wouldn't be tenable to stack redundant servers more than two thick.
But I'm giving the BOTD, of course.
(oe; 'red u' nancy' was a comedy duo from the 1910's... they sucked)

| 5. facebook is kind of buggy. |
|
Have you ever had someone disappear from your friend list, then they show up a couple of says later? That's happened a few times. Also, replies disappear for no apparent reason (yes sometimes it's because the person deleted them manually) but sometimes yes, for no apparent reason.

| 8. It's like the electrical grid in the US. |
|
Now that I think of it, the rate of growth they had to accommodate probably led to a massive patchwork of servers all over.
Shit, that's a liability if they don't (or haven't already) get that consolidated.
