America Elects alternative nominating conventon in all 50 states - anybody know anything about this?
I just heard Mark McKinnon mention this right at the end of Meet the Press this morning. This was the first I'd heard of them and wondered what folks here might know about them. Any idea as to started/sources this effort?

From their website http://www.americanselect.org /

Americans Elect is the first online presidential nomination that is independent of the major parties.
The first direct presidential nomination. No special interests. No agendas. No partisanship.
A greater voice for all Americans, no matter their party. Every registered voter can be a delegate. Any constitutionally-eligible citizen can be a candidate.
The power to choose your candidate in the 2012 election. Real issues. Real candidates. Real votes.

Purpose:
What if you had the power to nominate a president? Americans Elect is the first direct presidential nomination.
You decide the issues.
You choose the candidates.
You nominate the president.
And the winner will be on the 2012 ballot in every state.

Process
Summer 2011
Define your priorities

Decide the issues that matter most to you
How should voting work in the 21st century? Were combining our oldest values with our newest technologies to create the first direct nomination. Everyone is invited. Every vote counts the same. And theres greater choice for all. Wont we all vote this way someday?

Progress
Is this really possible? Yes. In fact, weve already collected over 1.5 million signatures and are well on the way to securing ballot access in all 50 states.
1,755,707
Signatures and Counting!

In our convention next June, American voters will choose our first directly-nominated presidential ticket.

2. This is very interesting. Run a candidate who has no base and
expect that he/she can win an election in this political
environment of today.

4. It will be interesting to see what candidates they come up with.
And, how (if it comes off) it will effect the election.

7. If he's involved, then it can't be good, imho.
He's involved in a PR firm that helps out the world's worst dictators and other unsavory characters, to improve their images, or was. Not exactly an ethical person.
