Once again, Obama shows himself to be a weak politician
Boner: "Jump!"

Obama: "How high?"

Who gets to rough him up next, Roger Goodell?

By appearing to be a weak politician Obama has really visited exquisite humiliation on Boehner and the Republicans.

ETA: And just like the term "Firebagger" was actually created by a Hamsherite talking about himself, the "eleven dimensional chess" thing comes from those who kept telling us that Obama was playing chess while everyone else in DC was playing checkers or ticktacktoe..

Basically the Obama boosters brought the eleven dimensional chess meme on themselves.

I bet you're quite fond of the firebagger thing, I know I've heard it a lot here on DU and rarely in a good way.

12. Please tell us how you would get The GOP House to vote yes on the resolution

The House has to vote to pass a resolution in order to hold the joint session.
If ya can't get The House to vote yes on the resolution, then there'd be no way for Obama to have access to the room for the speech.

28. Mr. Obama should have sent out the Marines to round up Congress.
Many here want a Dictator, not a President.

Either that, or they are totally ignorant of how this government works, and think being president is like being a king; say it, and it is done.

40. The funny thing is this...
That G.W. Bush, as dumb as he is and as confused a president as he was, still put together a WH crew and an administration that successfully conned and lied the country into two wars without paying for them. Obama on the other hand, is supposed to be smart, has a crew and administration that cannot even properly schedule a speech nor negotiate favorably for the policies of his party and or the betterment of the average citizens of the country - ha! This is total befuddlement to me.

44. So if the president appeared at the house chamber to deliver a speech they'd turn him away?
Edited on Thu Sep-01-11 01:01 AM by pa28
Suppose Boehner slammed the door in his face how do you think that would reflect on Republicans?

They idea that the president is a figurehead at the mercy of congress is untrue and defeatist.

15. recommended, with a cautionary footnote
I just had my first post ever pulled for criticizing the man. And yes, it was a clear violation--not a bunch of namecalling or anything, but definitely an expression of frustration and disappointment about this scheduling thing (not that bad in and of itself, but there was already lots of straw on that camel's back). It could be that a 10-year run on DU is long enough for me, I don't know. But I do cherish being able to speak my mind in most forums and venues. If this little corner of the Internet stays with the man instead of the ideology, I'll have to give the subject some more thought.

29. OK, there's some twisted logic
Now I broke the rules, but it was almost justified, so I'll create the strawman that my free speech is almost being impinged upon and threaten to leave DU in anticipation of my free speech getting impinged upon. Oh, did I say I did commit a clear violation?

37. And look, there's some complete lack of logic and coherence in reply
I don't believe I ever said anything about having my free speech rights violated. So far as I know, DU hasn't been sold to the government, and therefore DU as an organization is not capable of violating my free speech rights. They can, however, kick me off of their private discussion board anytime they choose to. See how that works? I wasn't arguing any particular point; I was musing--it's something that thinking people do on occasion. Thanks for responding, but honestly, I'd rather the discourse be a little more--considered, I guess.

43. I'd rather the discourse be understood
I don't know what you said that got deleted, but it wasn't for merely "criticizing the man", as evidenced by innumerable posts that criticize the man and don't get deleted.

And I wasn't talking about your 1st amendment rights. I was paraphrasing your sentiment that you "cherish being able to speak your mind", loosely referring to that as free speech. Sorry for the confusion.

But I'm still confused. You admit your post was a clear violation of pre-existing rules, but then muse that perhaps DU is no longer the place for you if they "stay with the man instead of the ideology", as you "cherish being able to speak my mind".

Perhaps I'm reading too much into your statement, but I hear you musing about the possibility that DU may be becoming a place where you cannot speak freely (i.e. speak your mind) about certain things, as if somehow your post getting deleted was a harbinger of things to come regarding criticizing Obama.

That's the disconnect I object too. Nothing has changed that made your post acceptable yesterday but not today. Where have you been given the indication that DU is going to "stay with the man instead of the ideology"? You went over the top in a post and seem to be pointing the finger away from yourself.

38. I don't know anything about that, but I'm not crying foul
I'm not put out at the moderators for doing what they're supposed to be doing. I was just musing about the underlying rules they're enforcing, wondering about the apparent divergence of the current office-holder and the ideology that many of us hold dear, and how that would affect the conversation and the tone at DU. Thanks for the response, I appreciate it.

20. Yes,
what should have happened is Boehner's classlessness should have dragged the President into a fight over a date controlled by the House.

It would have been interesting to watch the criticisms of that episode a week before the speech: He lost focus!!!!

The President isn't going to be petty for theater. He's about to give a jobs speech and that's far more important than Boehner hissyfit.

For a refresher:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVulqghL9no

This man cannot stand up to the Republicans for anything. Not even to protect his pride.

Poor excuse for leadership. Why propose the date and telegraph he was going to preempt the Republicans if he wasn't?
