Hurricane Irene to go down as one of the ten costliest storms in history
Damage could be over 10 billion dollars, and most of it will not be covered because the damage was mainly from flooding and not wind. I'll bet those idiots who thought this storm was over-hyped are now looking rather stupid in saying so.

2. Just amazing to me how many people who live nowhere near the ocean
were affected--almost seems unfair.

3. Hurricanes are just not coastal events
Just because the winds dies down, doesn't mean anything. Irene affected 13 states. Some of our most infamous storms have done their greatest damage away from the water. Andrew, Hugo, Agnes, Irene just name a few.

which has had record rainfall. August was the wettest month on record for many years we had 14 inches here before the storm. :scared: With no place for the rain to soak in large amounts caused massive 100yr epic flooding. Now with turbidity levels so high most drinking water supplies reservoirs are useless. My town is now on water restrictions  because they might only be able to process enough for drinking only. It takes a lots to get the muck out.

Irene was a big swirling mass of water.

5. True. However, as people keep building in coastal areas, the cost of damage hurricanes cause

will continue to rise.
