2. Yay!
To a big extent these days civilization is about having electricity...

As soon as the power goes off you're basically camping indoors.

9. Oy, are you right. We were really out of our element.
Went to go make coffee in my french press, thought I have a gass stove, I can light it with a lighter, but then realized I couldn't grind the beans!

Arg!

Glad power is back.

14. Heh, I'd have been crushing those suckers with a spoon and a bowl..
Or I'd hook up one of my two inverters to the car and power my grinder that way..

Boy Scouts are always prepared..

19. It's not like there's all that much else to do when it's raining and the power's off..
I do stuff like that as much to keep myself occupied as anything else, I have a low boredom threshold and an overwhelming urge to tinker with things.

been there done that Hurricane Andrew Aug '92

The power came and went for days before it came back for good.
While you can get some laundry done, make some ice and cook whatever's left that hasn't spoiled.

10. That should be it, except the smell in the neighborhood of rotten food and destroyed water-logged
items from flooded basements out on the curb waiting to be picked up. :(

20. Mine is still off
Williamsburg, VA. Am posting with my droid which was charged via car.
We don't expect it to be back on until perhaps the weekend. Irene wrecked so many huge trees in our neighborhood.
We do have gas for cooking, bathing, thank goodness.

We lived through Isabel in 03 but don't want to do this again, so we're committing to purchasing a generator.
