Unemployed? Go to North Dakota
http://www.usatoday.com/money/economy/story/2011-08-27/Unemployed-Go-to-North-Dakota/50136572/1

Unemployment is a national problem in the U.S., but you wouldn't know that if you travel through North Dakota.

The state's unemployment rate hovers around 3 percent, and "Help Wanted" signs litter the landscape of cities such as Williston in the same way "For Sale" signs populate the streets of Las Vegas.

"It's a zoo," said Terry Ayers, who drove into town from Spokane, Wash., slept in his truck, and found a job within hours of arrival, tripling his salary. "It's crazy what's going on out here."

<snip>

The McDonald's in Williston is one of the busiest in the country, and they need to pay $15 an hour just to attract employees to work there.

12. My car doesn't run on change and I need to get to work...
nor does my oven, nor are many of my essentials manufactured with change.

3. If I were willing to move as far north as North Dakota.....
...I'd go a little further and head into Manitoba, Canada. The unemployment rate in Winnipeg is 5.0%. At least I wouldn't have to worry about getting shot at or losing my health insurance coverage. I know I'm probably dreaming, but heck, the way things are heading in the United States, I don't think anything is out of the realm of possibility.

:-(

4. " and fracking is allowed to continue."
Welcome to the world of Big Oil Propaganda.

Although things are going well in ND, don't expect them to last. All that equipment is mobile for a reason. You would be a fool to move there and think you will have a job in two years. Everyone I know that has gone to work down there have come back to Prudhoe Bay.

And the myth of the 100,000 dollar a year job is just that. The only ones making that type of cash are company people.

13. And Fargo actually has housing
since it's the "metropolis" of ND (pop. >100,000!) A big part of a problem in the smaller towns is that there just isn't enough housing to accommodate people moving in looking for work.

7. unemployment is low because all the young people move to Minnesota.
You know why? because there aren't any damned good jobs in North Dakota! They've been losing young people for decades.

8. I've have relatives in North Dakota, no way in hell would I
go there to live. The last time I was there the town they live in didn't even have a place to eat, no theater, no nothing, businesses all boarded up. No wonder the young leave, nothing there for them.

14. Yeah, it is the most bland state in the union
Flat, rural, too many rednecks, and has very little natural beauty.

21. BS Propaganda
There really aren't any jobs there. I know of two brothers that packed up and moved out there looking for jobs. They looked for about 10 months, found nothing and gave up & moved elsewhere.
