Evidence of Jared Lee Loughner anti-immigrant views?
Edited on Wed Jan-12-11 10:11 AM by purrFect
i noticed via his youtube video that he seemed to rail against folks in his district not using grammar correctly... i took that as an attack against the immigrant community and i don't understand why it hasn't been given more attention.

i just typed his quote from his first you tube video titled 'Hello'...
http://www.youtube.com/user/Classitup10

Secondly, my hope - is for you to be literate! If you're literate in
English grammar, then you comprehend English grammar. The
majority of people, who reside in District-8, are illiterate
-
hilarious. I don't control your English grammar structure, but you
control your English grammar structure.

(emphasis mine)

what say DU?

1. Sounds more like a jab against people whose 1st language is not English
I hope the FBI is forthcoming with what they uncover regarding his online activities. It will help shut down the RW noise machine that has been touting his 'leftist leanings.'

Also...this fuckhead holds himself up as a paragon of English grammar? If the quote above is any indication, he's far from masterful in his own language and has no business lecturing anyone else on the subject.

2. right, immigrants... and where has the immigrant debate been most heated recently... Arizona
I think the sheriff knows a lot more details than he is letting on right now.

and yeah, he is the last person to be giving out english grammar advice.

5. I believe this weird reference to grammar is something a SPLC expert
said was a meme of the right wing fringe. It will be interesting to see where all of this goes once all of the evidence is examined and analyzed. I'm sure investigators know so much more than has been made public.

8. they don't speak english correctly... that is a common refrain of the RW
which he uses as well (see the quote in the OP) so it is hard to ignore.

...languages in government communications, election materials, etc.

I've heard anti-immigrant people complaining bitterly about not being able to understand what is being said by people who have strong foreign accents.

But I can't recall ever seeing or hearing an anti-immigrant person focusing on poor grammar among immigrants. I see plenty of poor English coming from anti-immigrant people.

I think you're either blowing smoke, or imagining things.

25. exactly
they want them to speak english, and to speak it properly.

they complain about it all the time.

now trying to parse out grammar, from a debate about those bemoaning immigrants and their english speaking skills, is stretching it.

That's the real purpose.

7. His grammar nuttiness was not about ESL.
His grammar nuttiness was more in line with the "we control the world around us through our use of grammar" - verbal tinfoil.

11. I thought his grammar nuttiness was in the opposite direction
Namely that he thought that grammar was a form of government mind control (and, presumably, that the "morans" guy and the "No Amnety" woman were heroic rebels against the status quo).

14. It's a belief that The GOVERNMENT is using grammar to control.
it's a theory from some guy in Milwaukee. It can be googled. I don't think there is any solid anti-immigrant issue yet.

english correctly.

i think it is something that should at least be discussed.

23. He was angry with people at his school, from which he was barred.
Maybe that's what he meant?

What is the make-up of his neighbors, and the district? Have you checked that yet? Check the percentages. I know it's a border area

18. It had nothing to do with immigrants
He was on another level of crazy

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/jan/10/gabrielle-giffords-shooting-grammar-extremist?CMP=twt_fd

one of his video diatribes posted on the internet, he said: "The government is implying mind control and brainwash on the people by controlling grammar. You control your English grammar structure."

Some reports have connected this with the arguments of David Wynn Miller – or as he styles himself, Judge David-Wynn: Miller – whose near-impenetrable, capital letter-heavy website expounds the notion that grammar is used to control the populace, and that by inserting colons or hyphens into your name you can escape taxable status by becoming a "prepositional phrase

20. it could be both... in the quote i posted, he said nothing about mind control
and specifically called out the people in his district for not using it correctly.

to me that sounds just like the language the anti-immigrant nutjobs use all the time.

i just find it strange that it isn't even discussed.

but i'm inclined to believe given most of his rantings have with to do with the idea of language as mind control that is what he's talking about. I'd say he accusing anyone who use normal grammar as illiterate and in control of the government
