Dear John, Dear Catholic Charities,

We, the State of Illinois, regret to inform you that we will be unable to continue funding your intolerance and ignorance with taxpayer money. A judge has ruled that we can decline to provide you with public money to run your foster care and adoption services on behalf of the state. You see, we have recently legalized civil unions and you have refused to allow same sex couples to adopt children even though it’s perfectly legal for them to do so. That is totally not cool with us.

Sometime in the next few years we will most likely take the final step and legalize same-sex marriage as well. We’re simply evolving as a State. We understand that you really hate this idea and that’s perfectly OK; Your institutionalized stupidity and hatred are Constitutionally protected for all time despite your best efforts to undermine the separation of Church and State. Sooner or later, though, you’ll figure out that if you DO manage to “tear down that wall” (har-har), then the government will have the power to regulate what places of worship can and cannot do within their walls. We know you hate that idea even more than homosexuals. We know this because part of your regularly scheduled fear campaign is that the government is trying to “takeover” your religion. But we both know you’re bearing false witness about that.

So, that’s it. We’re officially no longer an item. It’s not you, it’s us. Actually, scratch that. It IS you. We’ve grown up and you’re still throwing temper tantrums about who is having sex with who. That is sooooo high school of you. I mean, honestly, you’re not even consistent about it! Seriously, you have a problem with homosexuality but that’s not even one of the Ten Commandments! Do you prevent adulterers and people who work on Sundays from adopting children? No? Your particular God took the time to inscribe that in stone and, according to you (and other people unfamiliar with history), it’s the basis for our entire country. Yet, you don’t even blink an eye if someone like Newt “third time’s the charm” Gingrich wants to adopt a child.
