Even though I'm critical of Obama 95% of the time, I find myself defending him constantly
against right wingers that I know in real life. Most of them think that I worship the ground he walks on, which is funny because my hardcore Obama loving friends think I hate his guts. How many of you find yourself in a similar situation? There's a great Molly Ivins quote that was said about Clinton that I find just as applicable to Obama:

"If left to my own devices, I'd spend all my time pointing out that he's weaker than bus-station chili. But the man is so constantly subjected to such hideous and unfair abuse that I wind up standing up for him on the general principle that some fairness should be applied. Besides, no one but a fool or a Republican ever took him for a liberal."

1. So why did you think you wouldn't have to defend him at any time?

30. Wingnuts have to use the fantasy criticisms taught to them by their masters.
They are owned by the media that tells them what to say and even think.

9. Brag?
Hell yeah, brag. Just the fact that he won the election and put the pukes out of office is all the bragging you need to do. We the people, after 8 long as years of the damn bushit, got rid of the mofos. The only problem is we let a few of them back in the front seat. We screwed ourselves.

Don't even THINK of doing that again, k?

14. Theory
You are not happy with Empire, and the DoD budget, etc.
Therefore about half of what Obama is doing is, well, distasteful?

I like most of what he has done in the country, but wars and propping up Empire I don't.

Could it be that Empire backers are our real problem?

20. I don't know. I think Biden or Clinton would have wiped the floor with Mccain/Palin
People were angry enough with the republican party that they would have elected a ham sandwich over Mccain. And once people got to know Palin, it only intensified that feeling.

23. BIDEN? No way. Clinton--certainly, once the knives in her back were removed.
Biden had some ancient history of plagiarism that happened at the dawn of videotape (the Neil Kinnock speech), he had two brain surgeries and should have died, and he can be a bit of a gasbag at times. VERY nice fellow, smart, great wife, all that...but Biden? No. He does fine as Number Two, but he isn't Lead Dog material.

Clinton could have wiped the floor with M/P had she been given the opportunity and the backing of the party. The good ole boys just weren't ready for her, though.

Turns out, it's "Selective Enforcement of the Rules" Underground. I still don't understand why endorsements of Rick Perry (because we have to "hit bottom" for our own good) are allowed to stand.

It's very disappointing.

35. Wrong!!!
If it were not for Obama, the 2008 election would have brought us Hillary Clinton.

Remember we had choices in a primary season. If there were no Barack Obama running in that primary we would not have had McCain/Palin we would have had Hillary Clinton.

McCain/Palin never had a chance against any Democrat in the GE is my point. The tea party loved Mc/Palin but the Republican Establishment could not stomach either one of them. That was a year the republicans wanted to lose.

Those are the facts!

8. I know what you mean...
and i personally think that there's more of us than you think...

I am frustrated at many choices he has made, especially in terms of environment/energy and the WARS.
but i also have to admit that he was handed a huge shit sandwich to deal with and bush fucked us worse than many of us will ever know.
(and yea, i still wish those asshats would be prosecuted)

but with my family and conservative 'friends' in general, i have to hold the line for us democrats, and not let them see the weakness.
I dunno, the whole bipartisan approach upsets me to no end...i guess it's better for him to remain a logical and evenminded leader than an 'angry black man' but dayum i wish the ass whoopins would commence sometime soon!

Inside DU, I've been called a Republican troll and an infiltrator, who hates Obama and wants him to fail, probably because I'm racist. Oh yeah, and I want a sold silver and/or gold unicorn that shoots rainbows out of its ass.

Outside of DU, I've been called a lover of certain derogatory racial epithet, a queer hugging, tree fucking, Socialist welfare loser, who wants to touch Bill Clinton's dick (yeah, I was really told that). These slurs come from strangers, old friends that were left out on the counter too long and went bad, and family members that don't know how to spell the word "book."

In a weird way, I've learned some empathy for our President.

19. I may be one of the strange ones here
but I have always assumed that a majority of his critics on DU want him to succeed and would go tooth and nail defending him when up against one of the lunatics on the right. Personally I have learned to enjoy standing up for him against the nuts on the right because most of the ones I come in contact with are also racists and being an old white man it sets them back when I come to the president's defense. The looks I get are priceless.

24. I don't feel that way, unfortunately. I feel as though most of his critics here
will give him shit for wearing the wrong tie. They nitpick. They look for things to complain about. They'd rather he be perceived as an obstructionist, do-nothing asshole than compromise for the best deal he can get. And some of them don't understand that a US President is not a King, and cannot rule by decree.

I don't know what the source of some of this animosity is, or the motivations for it, but I do have some troubling opinions on that score that I'll just keep to myself.

26. When I see threads that advocate the election of Rick Perry because
we have to "hit bottom" (and then, supposedly rise back up--how naive) that are "rec'd" by 300 plus people who plainly didn't "think it through," I don't think I am being oversensitive in the slightest.

I was, however, appalled. It's plain that the old "DU rules" are very flexible things, these days.

I defend him against the wingnuts in my life, but, in truth, I'm very disappointed in him. One of my pet sitting clients loves to needle me about being a liberal. The other day she asked me how I'm enjoying "my leader now". I told her I'm not, but not for the reasons she doesn't like him. I told her that he's nowhere near liberal enough for me - much less a Socialist. I told her I was frankly surprised she didn't like him more, seeing how the rich got their tax breaks, he's put SS and Medicare "on the table", wars, wars, and more wars. She only said, "Well...". I KNOW what their issue is (he's BLACK), but they will NEVER admit it.

and Obama the President's Administration's policies. Policies are not the person.

I attack/criticize Obama Administration policies.

I defend anyone from racially motivated attacks. I judge many GOP attacks on Obama to be racially motivated.
