Think about that for a minute.

Like 8 years of that national nightmare wasn't quite enough for them. See what kind of mentality President Obama is up against in this country? Sends chills down my spine just thinking about it.

:scared:

4. Careful there....
Until recently we had a Dem house, Senate and Obama.
The stupid voter theory can easily be steered both ways.

8. Maybe he didn't destroy the economy for you but he sure did for a lot of others
I spent a total of about 7 years of the 1980's laid off from my full time job.

The unemployment rate shot up to 10.8% and the 1984 GOP campaign slogan was "Morning In America."

18. I'm from Detroit and moved to Colorado for work.
so I know what you are talking about

but compared to the total collapse trickle down has caused 30 years later, the economy was not destroyed as it was in 2008

3. And not just any Republican, but Reagan's VP. And many Americans still idolize Reagan.
Not even just the right wing, but average people who liked having a smiling, confident charmer in the White House, even if he was confident about things which just didn't fucking EXIST.

6. Large systems have latency and inertia

The true nature of the damage had not yet begun to reveal itself. It took 8 years of GW Bush (and Helpers) to cause the economic collapse. This time the GOP is ahead of the game. If the GOP get full control of the US government in 2013, the results will appear swiftly.

7. "Like 8 years of that national nightmare wasn't quite enough for them."
Unlike the 8 years under the most recent R President, I do not recall the 80s being such a nightmare. Then again, that was the view through the eyes of a teenage boy.

11. The 10.8% unemployment rate must not have effected the breadwinner in your family?
If it had you would have remembered. I can remember not being able to afford new school clothes for my two kids back then because I was out of work.

14. According to the bureau of labor statistics, it was 9.6 in 1983,
Down to 7.5 in 1984 for the reelection and down to 5.5 for the '88 election. That's the sort of trend that sells to the voters. By the time the election came around, Raygun was perceived by many voters as one who was brining DOWN the unemployment rate. If Obama can bring down the rate by 2 points before the election next year, he's going to be almost impossible to beat, whether it was his policies that were responsible for it or not.

10. It was that damn liberal, progressive Dukakis...
So soon after that socialist, Mondale. Their populist rantings and emotional appeals were just more than the voters could handle...

13. Only because of an inept campaign by Dukakis
Americans were tired of Raygun as evidenced by Dukakis' 17 point lead coming out of the convention. Dukakis just allowed himself to be defined by the opposition.

15. Yes and I'll never forget how he just sat on that enormous lead
and took a vacation after the convention. Dukasis was the poorest of the Democratic field that was running and he's the one that was left for us. I'll never forgive him for the way he let the label "liberal" be demoniized by the repukes, we still live with it.
