US troops may stay in Afghanistan until 2024

America and Afghanistan are close to signing a strategic pact which would allow thousands of United States troops to remain in the country until at least 2024, The Daily Telegraph can disclose.

The agreement would allow not only military trainers to stay to build up the Afghan army and police, but also American special forces soldiers and air power to remain.

The prospect of such a deal has already been met with anger among Afghanistan’s neighbours including, publicly, Iran and, privately, Pakistan.

It also risks being rejected by the Taliban and derailing any attempt to coax them to the negotiating table, according to one senior member of Hamid Karzai’s peace council.

1. They won't be there that long
We'll need them for the war against China scheduled for 2015.

3. This won't last very long.
The choice we have is food stamps, pensions, teachers, firemen, roads and education or a new $40 billion dollar aircraft carrier and all the other toys we are spending our bucks on. Occupation costs are currently around $150 billion a year.

We've seen a tidal wave of PTSD and suicides.

I personally think a better way to fund this insanity is through bake sales.

BTW, keep your fucking hands off my medicare and social security. There is a reason social security is called the 'third rail'.

6. Well they haven't left Germany since WW2 and they're still
in Korea so why is this news? The Vietnamese really have something to celebrate.

9. The synecdoche in the first sentence (America and Afghanistan) is
telling, isn't it? As if the puppets in Kabul represent Afghanistan. They might exert nominal control during the daytime, but the resistance controls Afghanistan at night.

The American troops will stay in the country until either the resistance kills or wounds every last one or America's empire falls apart once and for all. Signed agreements between imperialists and puppets have nothing to do with it.
