Sewer line leaks onto Mukilteo Speedway

A sewer force main line broke this weekend in downtown Mukilteo, leaking raw sewage and buckling the surrounding streets in several locations, including along the Mukilteo Speedway.

The pressurized pipe system cracked on Saturday, Aug. 13, under the stress of pumping sewage, and leaked an estimated 3,000 gallons onto the streets and into the stormwater drains near the intersection of Clover Lane and SR-525, according to the Mukilteo Water and Wastewater District.

Both water district and city officials said overall health hazards and damage to the streets caused by the leak are not yet known.
