Angry Birds maker Rovio could be valued at $1.2bn
Although no names have officially been put on the table, likely partners include Fifa developer Electronic Arts, Farmville creator Zynga, and media giants News Corp and Disney, according to Bloomberg.

“I can see how Disney would take ‘Angry Birds’ and turn them into a theme-park ride and a movie,” said Michael Pachter, managing director of research at Wedbush Securities. “Zynga could take ‘Angry Birds’ and make it into ‘FarmVille.’”

Angry Birds, in which gamers fire a range of birds at green pigs who have stolen their eggs, has been downloaded more than 300m times since its launch in 2009, and is one of the most successful smartphone apps of all time.

Originally released for the iPhone, Rovio has added versions for Android and Nokia, as well PCs and Macs.

2. Yeah, I confess I was curious and tried it out when the Google Chrome version came out
I think I lasted five minutes before I got really bored. It lasted longer than Pong did, but not by much.

As you said, it's a nice distraction. A fun addiction and a nice time wasting app. I was hooked on it for sometime and like all games my interest faded over time.

And it's a great example of a small company hitting it big with one hit product. And it makes sense in this economy - it's priced around a $1 or $2 (on the iPhone, free on android) and it provides hours of enjoyment. Good for Rovio's success. Let's just hope this doesn't become some idiotically inflated bubble - I'm skeptical about $1.2BN. These valuations are crazy.

8. congratulations to them
i would hope they consider donating some small sum of money to some of the critically endangered species of the world

in some countries, $20K a year is all it takes to manage a reserve for breeding birds

birds have been very good to them, why not return the favor?
