Think back to dubya's 2004 campaign, when he pranced around speechifying: "you may not agree with me, but you know where I stand." People ate it up! And on our side, we had You are ABSOLUTELY correct, Warpy, and Juanita Jean is, too. It doesn't seem to matter to the ding-dongs out there in teabagger/GOP/libertarian-utopia world. They don't give a damn whether the guy's agenda is about to burn the country down - including everything THEY care about (well, except enforced already-prescribed church-going). They don't give a damn whether the guy is lying to them and doesn't have a clue. All they want is the certainty of empty words. As long as it SOUNDS good, and the candidate LOOKS good, facts just don't matter. Especially when they can build and then steep themselves in their own "reality."

It's a sad state of affairs. Our country is thoroughly romanced by the idea of having a "leader" you can go have a beer with. Problem is, nobody I know, with whom I could presumably go have a beer, is anywhere near qualified to be President of the United States? And I don't even drink beer. Hell, I wouldn't vote for somebody just because they're the type I could go have some late-harvest riesling or a strawberry margarita with, either.
