Bachmann will cut SS and Medicare for all.
Edited on Fri Aug-12-11 03:59 PM by ErikJ
Representative Michele Bachmann said she would cut Social Security and Medicare benefits for all but current recipients as part of a broader effort to reduce the federal deficit.
“We will reform the entitlement programs now, not five years from now, not 26 years from now, now,” Bachmann said on Bloomberg Television’s “Political Capital With Al Hunt” airing this weekend. “Anyone who is not yet on those programs, we are going to change them.”.......

Bachmann said on Bloomberg Television’s “Political Capital With Al Hunt” airing this weekend. “Anyone who is not yet on those programs, we are going to change them.”

On the issue of entitlements such as Medicare and Social Security, Bachmann advocates cuts that would go deeper than those proposed earlier this year by Representative Paul Ryan, a Wisconsin Republican, and approved by the U.S. House.

8. Exactly what I thought.
Most of our elected officials actually agree with some version of slashing the entitlement programs,
but give us all sorts of focus grouped lingo about reform and such BS.

16. Exactly, they are "Earned" benefits. The Republicans and their word guru Frank Luntz like to use
words like "entitlement" as a dog whistle to convey to those who are the alleged "real Americans," that someone is trying to take something from them that they didn't earn, but rather, feel "entitled" to. Using words to make things that are good sound bad, and things that are bad sound good, has become a Republican tool to confuse and divide people on the issues of the day. Earned is the word we should be using to describe these benefits, because that is what they are, earned benefits. By using the word "entitlements," that the Republicans made ugly, we just help them in their mission to brand things with words that convey something other than what they really mean. It's important that we do not help the Republicans by repeating the words they have made ugly and that benefit their fucked up, draconian, corporations come first agenda. Of course we are "entitled" to the things we've worked for and earned, but that's not how Republicans use the word "enntitlement," they use it to convey to their brainless constituents that others (not them of course), "expect" or "demand" something for nothing.

20. So Republicans want to force us to take care of elderly relatives
without SS and Medicare and pay for them out of our own pockets plus for our own care? That's unrealistic because nearly all of us will end living under the bridge or dying in the street. SS was created as safety net to keep elders from poverty then Medicare. Those millionaires/billionaires have no idea and are so out of touch.

23. People running for office, even the presidency, say things that they
can't or won't do.

GITMO was going to be closed, there was even a statement that an Executive Order would be issued to do just that, within a few days after taking office. It hasn't been done, but he "triiieed", and those meanies wouldn't let him.

There would be a drawdown of troops in the -istan suffixed regions, but instead there was an increase via a 'surge.'

They say things, but talk is cheap.

He did what he said he'd do, you didn't listen and are now accusing the man of lying about it?

27. I think you are correct about the increase in Afghanistan. It was while
he was a Senator that he called for withdrawal of troops from Iraq, with redeployment of those troops to the US, to countries around Afghanistan, and to Afghanistan itself.

As it turned out, there was the 30,000 troop 'surge' in 2009 to Afghanistan.

Now, as to GITMO and the 2 million jobs. I missed the headlines where those things happened. Can you help me?
