Pledges - Marriage, Taxes, Allegiance
A thought or two on pledges.

IMHO, any politician who takes a "pledge" regarding marriage or taxes is committing nothing less than treason. As elected representatives, their only pledge is to protect and defend the Constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic. Claiming that those who oppose you are domestic enemies is BS. The military academies, or at least the Naval Academy, have a term for that - quibbling - and you be expelled for that.

Regarding the pledge of allegiance - stop it. It's pointless. Back to my first point - your first pledge - your oath - is to protect and defend, etc. Do you repeat that oath every day or at special events? No. You say it once, and you're committed to it. No other oaths or pledges are necessary. The only other oath worth mentioning is your marriage oath. Of course, this one is meaningless to the family values Republicans, as we've seen time and again (and, sure, to some Dems as well). But my point is that this one should be important. Do you repeat that one every day? No, you say it once and mean it and act on it daily. Or should.
