Can I just say I kind of like Huntsman?
I don't agree with him, but he seems like a sane and decent human being.

1. I do too, and hope he doesn't make it; could be problematic; rational.

8. Speaking of Repubicans who seem sane.
Am I the only one who actually liked Buddy Romer when he was on Colbert? His stance against taking corporate and PAC money is admirable I'll admit.

9. Equality Matters says he is the best Republican, if you must

“If you want to vote for a Republican, Huntsman is probably your best option,” said Richard Socarides, president of Equality Matters.

I don't must but he does seem the sanest of the crop.

11. I don't must either, but I miss having an opposition that made me think
Honestly even back in the GHWB days there were Republicans (Buckley, Sullivan) who made me think. One is dead and the other was kicked out of the party. But I think having a sane Republican party that presents a legitimately conservative viewpoint is something this country needs.

18. I really think it should have been Fred Karger, if they looked at everyone closely.
http://fredkarger.com/

"Fred’s extensive experience in politics and governmental affairs has spanned over 35 years. As a partner of the Dolphin Group, Fred managed numerous federal, state and local campaigns. He ran several successful opposition campaigns, including heavy involvement in three Presidential races.

In 2006 Karger founded Save the Boom!!! a grassroots campaign to save the oldest gay bar in the Western United States, the landmark Boom Boom Room and Coast Inn in Laguna Beach, California. This got Fred active in LGBTQ politics, and was the natural precursor to his starting Californians Against Hate

Californians Against Hate was created to bring public attention to the major donors to the Yes on Proposition 8 campaign. Fred organized boycotts against four mega-donors to Proposition 8, two were settled and two are ongoing. Proposition 8 passed in a very close election on November 4, 2008, and ended gay marriage in California."

Also, he worked in the Obama administration - the kiss of death.

of how extreme and rigid the republican party has become.

15. Sounds sort of like Josh Marshall's assessment
He was live-blogging ( I didn't watch ).

"9:31 PM: I must say Huntsman sounded pretty good.

9:33 PM: If Huntsman was the nominee he could give Obama a really tough race, at least among middle of the road people. Lucky for Obama there's basically no chance that's going to happen. "

16. Honestly I would love to see a Huntsman/Obama debate
That would be an actual clash of ideas between sane, articulate human beings. You know, what politics used to be.

19. Presidential hopeful Jon Huntsman's Sarah Palin nomination speech, 2008 (it's nauseating)
Edited on Thu Aug-11-11 10:07 PM by seafan
Blech.

Huntsman also started out with one of Rick Scott's retread operatives as his new campaign manager. After 6 months, she quit.

Oh, and yesterday, little Jebbie Bush, Jr. threw his *endorsement* to Huntsman, which Huntsman referred to as a "major announcement".

20. he scares me the most because he is the sanest
When he gets the nomination (my prediction: Romney's too busy sticking his feet in his mouth, and the rest are too crazy for a national candidate) he'll be a real challenge to Obama.

23. Frankly, I hope the GOP nominates the candidate that I like most.
Even if that person has a better chance of winning the general election. If Huntsman is the GOP nominee, we can rest assured knowing that the next president won't be a lunatic.

22. I hope he does well.
America will be better off if the Republican Party returns to rationality at some point. It'd be helpful if the leader of the GOP actually believes in climate change, post-medieval views of gay rights, and a sane world view in general.
