I do not think this country could survive a Romney or Perry Presidency
And I think we have a 50/50 chance.

What the Congress and the President are doing will only hurt the economy more. And we know what comes out of this super committee will be devastating to working people. So Obama is setting himself up for a very tough race.
If we get a GOP POTUS we are toast. And Dems seem to want to help.

1. I think they have no chance. None.
But that's just me.

3. Heard that we would keep Congress in 2010
how did that turn out.

Heard GWB had no chance. None.
Another win for us.

8. I have to agree with you! I think we've gone over the edge, and if the R's
get the presidency in 2012 IMO we're headed for a theocratic dystopia. There are IMO too many of the faithful herd that would jump right on the bandwagon for an evangelist if they twisted the messaging just right.

Logic pales in the 'new' America, and often Americans vote in their worst interest. I hope some country is willing to accept refugees in 2012. I just don't see a rosy picture for most Americans. Those with the cornered wealth are going to do just fine and they won't even notice a theocratic dystopia.

Damn, I wish I could be more optimistic, but the handwriting's been on the wall awhile. These republican hopefuls are a crazy bunch of F'ers and most Americans IMO do not really pay very good attention to what candidates are really about. Too many fall for the MSM sound bites and the powerful marketing hype.

The economy will be hung on Obama, and they can make a pretty powerful message of that. I'm not saying the R's are going to win in 2012, but I certainly can't help thinking about the 'what if."

15. Quite honestly, if the theocrats try to pull a Hitler, they'll tear the country asunder
What is looming on the horizon is the breakup of the USA. Many things may lead to this eventuality, but there will be no way for anyone to maintain rule over the whole of it.

In the next 10 years, I predict the USA will break up. At this point, it's the only thing we can do.

eventually regionalize. I've often wondered if America is just too large and complex anymore for the governing structure of the country. The model worked better IMO when we were smaller and not beset with these seemingly unresolvable differences.

I agree with you that this will eventually happen. In 2012 we'll have a better idea of just now F'ed this country is and where we are headed.

I don't think the theocrats are ever going to stop, their agenda is to tear the country asunder and bring on their rapture. They are sooooo F'ed up I really have trouble wrapping my head around it all. They seem to be all about authoritarianism, oppression, misery and destruction. What a combination.

27. I could see USA dissolves, defaults on debt but that's OK
States become sovereign nations. Maybe the South tries to go CSA. Shades of Justinian.

California and (ulp) Texas rule the Americas.

All empires fade

It's the nature of empires

This is not a bad thing

Ask a Roman, a Londoner, a Mexico City-ian or a Athenian today...

10. That and bury the country miles underground with no hope of recovery. And
sadly many Americans would stumble around wondering WTF happened. Many Americans just do not pay attention to what is going on IMO. I've come across a lot of people that had no idea what the recent election in WI was all about, just a deer in the headlight look, what election. Huh?
