AOL has turned to shit
it's simply bullshit, and Huffington Poo is nothing but a trashy magazine like the SUN in England. What dreck. It's all about entertainment trash and stupid animal tricks. My toilet paper is more interesting......

5. Yes... Arianna is nothing more than an opportunist...
She may hold a handful of progressive beliefs, but they go by the wayside in the name of $$. She certainly suckered us in, though, through the initial years of HuffPO

6. AOL = for old folks who don't realize they don't need it to get online...
EVERY person I know who still looks at AOL or pays them anything does so only because they don't understand they don't need it to connect to the internet.

My parents were 2 of those people. Took me forever to finally make them understand they don't need to pay AOL since they already have cable internet.

I've read there are about 3 million such people remaining. Some percentage of that probably don't have access to broadband, but I am sure many/most simply forgot they are paying or don't realize they don't have to.

14. LOL...My boss has an AOL address for his company. Dumbass.
What you wrote made me laugh thinking about an email received at a website I like, said website started by a guy who was a regular on one of AOL's old chat rooms back in the day!

The letter writer was CONVINCED she could get his website shut down for TOS violations!

Yes Virginia, the entire internet is America On Line and you can simply send a "I don't like this person because they said a bad word to me" email and like magic, a website totally separate from AOL will go away!

I had an acquaintance who was the same way. Just could not understand that she didn't need to pay AOL as well as Comcast in order to access the internet.

22. as has been reported on previous similar threads here...
....many people keep it because they stay in touch with old AOL friends this way. I've had AOL for fifteen years or so. My earliest Internet friends were on AOL, and some of them still are. Yes, I have other ways of accessing the Internets, but I also keep AOL in the way that I keep old letters and cards from friends. Why anyone should be bothered by that is beyond me.

23. Interesting. I just wondered if, for real computer buffs, keeping AOL is like keeping film cameras
Even when your pretty much only needing your digital anymore.

24. But you can keep in touch with old AOL friends WITHOUT paying AOL...
AIM is free.

You don't need to pay AOL anything unless you don't have broadband and absolutely rely on AOL for your connection to the internet.

Old letters and cards can simply be forwarded to any email address you want, and besides, I'm pretty sure anyone can get a free AIM email address these days. Unless AOL IS your internet connection (and there are far better options for dial up customers), there is literally no reason at all to pay AOL.

27. I hate AOL.
I had them for about 15 minutes and canned them. I realized that they hadn't canceled my account even though I had a confirmation # I still got charged for an extra month. They are a damn rip off and I don't understand why anyone would use them.
