Ok, first Al Gore, and now Chris Matthews are calling for people to
hit the streets.

Who else? Seems I heard about another pundit saying this...Bill Maher, maybe?

Got some good practice during the early '70s. AND again during the dubya years. And at all times and in every case - TOTALLY PEACEFULLY. Hell, I brought my children with me. I am ready. It's LONG PAST TIME.

27. Minus Wisconsin, of course. The majority of Americans are misinformed, disinformed,
LAZY!!

An *authentic* Tea Party grassroots movement would usher all these jackasses out of town!

We outnumber them. And still, the vast *majority* of us sit on our lazy, fat asses.

30. Unfortunately, what you are going to see is what's going
on in London from those who have lost everything and have nothing else to lose except a few social programs that our government is now trying to take away from them. I'm sure it's not what Matthews, et al has in mind. We have been having rallies and demonstrations in front of the offices of our Repuke Congressman since this whole debt ceiling debacle began, but it's never covered in the news. As far as he is concerned it never happened. I guess when someone burns a swastika or other symbolic icon on his front lawn he might take notice.

Edited on Mon Aug-08-11 05:14 PM by Adenoid_Hynkel
who, with their habit of putting self-professed communist speakers on stage, has a tendency to highjack and hurt the credibility of many a cause on the left. As someone who went to DC 8 times to protest the war, I can say that any time ANSWER got involved it became cringe-inducing.

I'd like to see a major progressive rally (last year's Jon Stewart "Let's be Friends" event didn't count), put together by a solid group like moveon or maybe Feingold's Progressive United. People are ready to get out there, be heard and show the teabaggers what a real populist movement looks like.

47. Yes I checked out their website, all excited, and was underwhelmed
It sounded like the usual warmed over hippy dippy, lefty louie claptrap. Like you I've been to quite a few of these things and between the godawful speakers and the side issues, the free Mumia, save the whales, freedom for some subgroup of a subgroup of a subgroup in some 3rd world country somewhere not to mention the 9/11 Truthers and the die hard Communists it can be pretty painful.

You'd never know that there's a major economic crisis going on from their website.

I want to march. I've been taking part in the Moveon actions at local Congressional offices but we need to do something big and visible. I'll probably go to this but I'm pretty sure it's going to be more of the same.

Wisconsisn, they have been in streets weeks at the time.

Seriously, I need something short and sweet to stand on the corner with. I've been out there with a "BRING THEM HOME" sign and get a few honks and

thumbs up but haven't been able to cut any message about what's happening down to less than 43 words.

BTW, someone is going around the town spraypainting over the "Bring em home" signs. That's weirder than hell.

48. Three words: TAX THE RICH!
Short, simple, easy enough to chant in place of "USA! USA!"

And if enough of us say it, and keep saying it, it might actually happen. I'm not expecting an immediate return to that socialist Eisenhower's rates, but if we keep our focus, we will prevail.

A Move-On action. Check their site, there are similar actions all over the place. It's a small action, but it ain't nothing.

I hope the October march in Washington is huge! In the meantime, let's find other ways to make our voices heard.

Billionaires for Tax-Cuts! Come on, oligarchs, dress up and thank your rep for all the coin. Billionaires for Entitlement Reform! Because us billionaires don't need no stinking entitlements anyway, right? A drone in every pot! Let them eat shake!

And I'd be on Al Gore's side. I've always said I would fight for the Earth, but by now even a serious fight would hardly help. Humanity is a shame that way.

It is going to get very ugly the next few decades, we all need to be ready.
