5. Back at you, uppity.
It should be one of our country's largest shames, imho, but it is defended here every freaking year.

6. I attended the Hiroshima ceremony in 1990
Edited on Sat Aug-06-11 12:16 AM by Art_from_Ark
There were quite a few of us from all over the world camped out in the park the night before. The ceremony the next day was a very somber occasion, with speeches by the mayor of Hiroshima and other dignitaries. After the ceremony, local high school students came up to us foreigners and asked us to take a survey about nuclear weapons. I told them "No more Hiroshimas!" and they seemed happy to hear that. After the survey, a lot of us headed over to the museum to see the exhibits of what one nuclear bomb did on that hot August morning.

7. In 1970 I was stationed in Iwakuni and traveled to Hiroshima
Just wanted to see the place. Walked all around, and as I was leaving someone asked if they could practice English and they walked me through the park again and explained many of the monuments and gave different translations of what was written on them than what was in print in English. It was a very sobering experience.

Peace,
ADW
