Good but not great, loses in governmental employment pulled the numbers down. Takes +120,000 a month to maintain the status quo. How often have we reached that plateau in the past two years. Unemployment drops to 9.1% based on the number of people who fell off the list for any number of reasons.
Treading water, as I just saw in a tweet. Better than what they expected though, which is something (at this point we have to be satisfied with small blessings :-()
as it takes 125,000 jobs per month just to keep up with population growth. You'll have to forgive me for not jumping up and down with joy and optimism.
It will give a temporary bump and hopefully stem this current slide (which I can't figure out the cause or timing). Any blood letting will occur if the jobs report going into December is slack vs summer jobs reports. I would like to see a strong one going into November as holiday job hiring heats up. If it is disappointing or doesn't carry enough going into that time period, especially with cuts, we may be in a tough time in the 1st quarter of 2012.
