My wild-assed idea for OR-1 (David Wu's district) Sam Adams for Congress...
K folks, we are desperate, and in danger of going red. I'm glad Wu is gone, I've despised him for years, even when I thought he was just a tool, not a perv. The three declared dems (Brad Avakian, Brad Witt, Susan Bonamici) are reliable middle-of-the-road dems, who will probably vote the right way most of the time. None of them inspires anyone.

Sam Adams (the 1st openly gay mayor of a major US city) just announced he will not seek a 2nd term. I'll be the 1st to admit, he was a crappy mayor. But he has also been liberal, conciencious, progressive...etc...

Paul Wellstone, Bernie Sanders, and Al Franken would have also probably made crappy mayors.

Sam Adams is smart, he's liberal, he's experienced (and he's pretty). I think he could make a "kick-the-shit-out-of-it" congressman.

(and yes, if he chooses to run, he needs to pay me...I can be bought pretty cheap these days)

remember you DID hear it here 1st.

2. wasn't Wu's district recently refigured?
And what did the change do to the district in terms of the electoral climate?

6. yes, it was. it lost a good chunk of urban PDX, and gained wealthy suburbs...
prevailing wisdom is that shifted the district at least a few points to the right, and puts it seriously in play for the 1st time in decades.

3. Not sure, just looked Wu up and he did well in 2010.
We should see where the Victory Fund stands on this. After all we only have, what 4 open LGBT members? Baldwin, Frank, Cicilline and Polis. I am all for this. Hey Victory Fund, i'd donate...

8. He dates 17 year old boys?
Really, folks. The big controversy was he hid his consensual affair with a 17 year old (they both claim it started when he was 18) until after he was elected. He is not popular and is not seeking re-election as mayor because he can't raise the funds. He has no chance.

12. The repub candidate is smart, rich, and telegenic...
and pulled almost 46% last time against Wu, ( a 5- term incumbent) before his scandals came to light, and our district has shifted, it's now jig-sawed to be about 50% rural.

He is too damaged from his own imbroglio ...

Let's hope for more telegenic Democrats ? .. is that what your saying ? .... I dont recall seeing Rob Cornielles .... Ever .....

Not one single second of his face on any media, so how can 'telegenic' matter so much ?? .... and I live in Wu's district ...

20. A, I said up front it was a wild assed fantasy...
B, if you haven't seen Rob Cornielles, and you live in the 1st, I guess I've got to ask if you own a TV.
How many straight pols had "imbroglios" with consenting adult interns and survived.?

But I bet Wu electrified you, right? Inspired you? Got you out there knocking on doors and answering phones?

And yeah, wild fantasy or no, I would kinda like to have someone I respect in the seat. With Witt, Avakian, and Boanamici, that ain't going to happen. They are each and every one fuck-wad hacks.

Excuse me for dreaming that OR could get a smart and interesting congressman again.

And yes, I know we will be stuck with Avakian, and he's already on my shit-list, he's gone pro-corporation, anti-employee, anti-union too many damn times.

So let me be perfectly fucking clear. Brad Avakian is a corporate tool. Brad Witt ans Susan Bonamici are both hacks. Steve Novick won't move into the district and run (I think he's going for another office)

Sam Adams was a crappy mayor. He might or might not make a good congressman. I think he's got the chops for it. Give me a better name, if you can.

I'm glad the Wu flu is gone. West Portland and Washington County deserve better. As far as Portland's mayor, it's not that I don't like him... it's more that I don't believe he's {not} ready for prime time.

But, it's not my decision. I don't vote for Portland's mayor. I don't live in District No. 1. :hi:

eta: That area will not vote "red".

remove {not}

14. You do know that #1 and #3 have been re-districted?
#1 in particular is now far less PDX, far more Wash. Co. Most estimates say 3-4% to the right, which is enough to swing most elections.

21. I will do anything I can to keep it blue...
In my 52 years of living (and 34 years of voting) I have voted for exactly 1 repub (and she was a local school-board candidate, who lost)

I'm actually shocked and awed that no one seems to give a shit about this race. And yes, I think Sam as a "hail-mary" play could run rings around the rest of 'em.

I'd like to see what it now encompasses. Beaverton? What? My sister in Beaverton would rather lose everything she has than vote for a gay man, I can tell you that.
