All 50 States See Record Highs in July

No state in the union was safe from July's blistering heat wave, according to data from the U.S. National Climatic Data Center.

The horrible July heat wave, lasting weeks in some cities, the entire month in others, affected nearly 200 million people in the United States at some point. Preliminary data show that 2,712 high-temperature records were either tied or broken in July, compared with 1,444 last year, according to the NCDC. At least one weather station in all 50 states set or tied a daily high temperature record at some point during July.

Two weather stations tied for the hottest temperature recorded during July. The Blythe station in Riverside County, Calif., and the Gila Bend station in Maricopa County, Ariz., both hit 120 degrees Fahrenheit (48.9 degrees Celsius) in July.

Even Alaska recorded unusually sweaty temperatures. The temperature at the Northway weather station in Southeast Fairbanks County hit a record 97 F (36.1 C) on July 11. .............(more)

5. We are getting it in NE Oklahoma pretty bad.
Today was 106. It was 104 by noon. Tomorrow they are calling for 110, and Wednesday, 115 is possible. The past month was horrible!

The highest high was 110; the lowest high, 91 degrees. The average for the month is 95 degrees, but this last month it was 101 degrees! Sixteen degrees above the average. We had 22 days of 100+ weather.

The lows weren't much better. The lowest low was 67 degrees; the highest low, 81 degrees. The average low is usually 70 degrees, this past month it was 75 degrees.

6. None of the Western coastal states set highs in July.
Washington and Oregon both set some new record lows during the months of June and July.

11. I sure noticed the lows.
I was grateful that the heat didn't hit us until late July.

It's plenty hot now, though. Not record setting, but too hot to get anything done.
