THE BIG LIE: Entitlement Spending is the cause of the deficit
They keep saying it over and over and eventually people believe it. Its not just Fox News, its Meet the Press, and every single news outlet that isn't progessive. David Gregory said it and the Democrat sitting across from him (McCaskill) did nothing to challenge it.

So if people keep hearing the same lie over and over it magically becomes the truth. We don't have a deficit because of the chimps two wars but because we've been giving away too much money. Translate... we've made government take care of people who should have been taking care of themselves. Big government bad. Small government good. Big government steals your tax money and gives it to those lazy people who won't look for jobs....

That is why idiot Republicans get elected to Congress.

2. It's not the cause of the past deficit...it is the cause of future unsustainable increases in costs.

If you address the budget 75 years out as we are required to do, it is the increase in social security in the next 20-30 years, and perpetually rising Medicare/Medicaid costs that are responsible for a constantly increasing spending to GDP ratio.

But the killer is interest payments. For every year we outspend what we take in we create more debt and more interest on that debt, then interest on that interest.

Here is the citizens guide put out by the government.

4. All the projections use decreasing or flat projections for defense as a percent of GDP.
We don't know What future congresses will do with defense. But we do know how many people we expect to cover through social security and Medicare and we have expectations of growing longevity.
