I am not sure the 14th Amendment thing is a slam dunk. But, legal or not, Obama needs to assert his authority to protect the country from harm. Presidents have broad latitude when it comes to threats from enemies -- foreign or domestic -- who would do harm to the country.

In this case, the "loyal opposition" has ceased to be loyal. The Tea Party caucus is out to hurt the country in order to make a point. That violates the oath they took when they were sworn in. So, all bets are off.

Obama should feel free to act in just about any way he chooses. Those bastards were all about having a strong "unitary executive" during the Bush years. OK, then, I say let's show them what that looks like.

President Obama: If the debt limit expires with no deal, do what you think is right. I will have your back. So will a lot of others.

1. Well
If he acts in our (the country's) interest he will be fine, if he does nothing he is toast. IMHO anyway....
