Why is this woman permitted on our networks?
http://www.bilerico.com/2011/07/ann_coulter_wants_a_dadt_policy_for_all_of_society.php

Ann Coulter appeared on The Joy Behar Show last night, where she continued to trash gay people and LGBT issues.

She had few positive things to say about New York marriage equality, except for the fact that maybe gays will finally stop demanding their civil rights. She said, "The only reason I might be happy is that maybe they will shut up about it. Okay, the media capital of the world has gay marriage. Can we move on now?"

And, most unbelievably, she asserted that she wished gays would just go away, saying, "I not only want 'don't ask, don't tell' for the military, I want 'don't ask, don't tell' for society. Just give me a week where we're not talking about the gays."

Coulter also had negative things to say about the backlash facing Marcus Bachmann and reparative "ex-gay" therapy.

All of this coming from the woman who was the headlining speaker for GOProud's "Homocon" last fall.

end of quote video at link

Imagine for a second that Michael Moore said this about conservative Christians. He would be banned outright from network TV and every single solitary Democrat who had ever so much as been in the same state as him at some point, would be made to denounce him from the rafters. In comparison Coulter has been enabled by the media despite a history of calling her opponents fag and queer, and now basicaly saying that gays should not be permitted to even speak in public. Again, just imagine if a figure on the left behaved this way, it wouldn't be pretty.

1. It's an appeal to the lowest instincts of human beings, for
profit. All the things we are supposed to be fighting for, equal rights for all eg, are undermined constantly by the lower elements in our society. And rather than marginalize them, they are elevated and treated with respect.

The media IS the problem. Best thing people can do is turn it off.

Just curious why you used woman vs person.

That said Coulter is a pimple on the ass of humanity...

12. I'm a woman
I have no problem with pointing out that she's a woman, nor do I have a problem with others pointing out that she's a woman. She's a vile piece of shit, and unfortunately, vile pieces of shit come in all shapes and sizes, etc.

25. why did you use her?
If my use of woman to describe a woman is somehow sinister, why isn't your use of her similarly sinister? For the record I used woman instead of person because she is a woman and I believe in being specific when I can.

10. Corporate media reminds us of its power by expressing its contempt for us & Civil Rights. It used to
be that we said media used a PUBLIC RESOURCE, the broadcast spectrum, that they had to respect, because it is OURS. I don't understand anymore what relevance that has with the changes in technology, but I often wonder, if there IS something we call a PUBLIC RESOURCE that these bigots use by means of their private capital, why can't we RECLAIM our rights to control that public resource in service to the Civil Rights of ALL Americans?

11. Ann Coulter
has never been married, and she's nearly 50 years old.

She's not a bad looking woman, though she is a vile human being. She rants about gays constantly.

If I had to guess, I'd bet money that she's got issues with her own sexuality. People that aren't homosexuals don't tend to worry that deeply about other people's sexuality unless they have issues with their OWN sexuality.

I've pretty much come to the conclusion that nearly every high-profile Republican is a pathological liar, and whatever they are ranting about someone else doing, it's highly likely they have either done it, are currently doing, thinking of doing it again and more likely, all three. I've just never met a right winger that was truthful with themselves or others.

Honestly, how can somebody so hateful and twisted live with themselves?

I'm surprised people even listen to her the vile shit she barfs up at this point. I guess maybe the absolute dregs of society might find some use in her putrid rantings, but those of us that are actual human beings revile her.

May she some day experience the pain caused by her years of spewed bigotry.

22. Probably because we live in a nation with freedom of speech ...
and a nation that has a media that profits from controversy.

I personally disagree with her viewpoint but defend her right to express it.

She is opposed to gays in the military and insinuates that the reason that our armies military protect many other nations is because our army has fewer gays. She ignores history.

Homosexuality in the militaries of ancient Greece

***snip***

Nonetheless city states that employed the practice in determining military formation enjoyed some success. The Thebans had one such regiment as the core of their entire army. They attributed this group called the Sacred Band of Thebes for making Thebes the most powerful city-state for a generation until its fall to Philip II of Macedon. Philip II of Macedon was so impressed with their bravery during the battle he erected a monument that still stands today on their gravesite. He also gave a harsh criticism of the Spartan views of the band:

Perish miserably they who think that these men did or suffered aught disgraceful.

One of the prominent Greek military figures enjoying such a relationship was Epaminondas, considered the greatest warrior-statesmen of ancient Thebes by many, including the Roman historian Diodorus Siculus. He had two male lovers: Asopichus and Caphisodorus, the latter died with him at Mantineia in battle. They were buried together, something usually reserved for a husband and wife in Greek society. Another pair of warrior-lovers — Aristogiton and Harmodius — credited with the downfall of tyranny in Athens and the rise of democracy became the emblem of the city. Historians have noted the prevalence of them portrayed in Athenian art comparing the figure of the two erected with daggers striking a tyrant to the Statue of Liberty

It should never be our job as Democrats to stifle the views of those who disagree with us. It is, instead, our job to counter their arguments and assertions with logic and facts.

Coulter is the author of eight books, all of which have appeared on New York Times Best Seller list, with a combined 3 million copies sold, as of May 2009.

8 books with 3 million amounts to about 400k, many of which have been given away at right wing websites who buy her book in bulk.

37. Actually I wasn't even aware that David Duke had written books ...
Our media loves controversy if it generates ratings.

I did find a CNN interview with David Duke, so he also gets air time.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCFOT2BvRPw

I couldn't force myself to watch more than a minute of the interview and I would imagine that most people who were watching it live on TV changed their channel. I don't believe that interviews with David Duke enhance ratings as much as interviews with Ann Coulter. That's probably why we see so much more of her.

I've also noticed that she pops up most often just as her newest book is published. That seems common for many of the people I see interviewed on the cable and TV networks.

34. Unfortunately
she expresses an opinion that others share. We need to know the enemy. Witness the bold arrogance and idiocy of it. Coulter personifies all that is ugly, grasping and mean in this culture. She gives a face to the disease at our roots--intolerance and hatred of "difference." She's a harpy flying around the huge monster that lurks below the radar...

I agree there's a double standard--the left would be ripped to shreds for saying something equally as offensive. Although some brave ones do get close these days, it's not to as wide an audience.

The fight is far from over.
