Repig on NPR revealed today what their obstinancy is about...
Edited on Sat Jul-30-11 12:21 AM by ProfessionalLeftist
...he said something to the effect of "President Obama is forcing the country over a cliff!"

This is their plan: FORCE a default then blame Obama for it and for the consequences of it, even though HE and Democrats compromised (hell, Obama gave away the whole fricken store!) and the Repigs gave up NOTHING and they have repeatedly refused to compromise ONE iota.

They WANT this to destroy the country. Because they WANT to destroy Obama. And if they have to destroy the United States to get to him and bring him down -- they will. Without hesitation. They've admitted it several times: "Our number One priority is making Obama a one-term President!" - "We want Obama to fail!"

Then we had Boner on his Bill from Hell: "Obama hates it. Pelosi hates it. Reid hates it" Well how mature of him. Wouldn't it be nice to have adults in DC running things instead of narcissistic, orange-faced six-year-olds like Boner who just want to play games with the US and world economy?

As the saying goes, Teapublicans HATE Obama more than they love their country.

And that my friends, is what this whole shittin' thing is about. A black man in what they consider THEIR white house, and they're going to DESTROY him no matter what.

It's a big lynching - of all of us.

1. They dread the idea of Obama getting any more SCOTUS picks
Edited on Sat Jul-30-11 12:24 AM by OmahaBlueDog
If re-elected, he would be likely to get to replace Bader-Ginsburg, Kennedy, and Scalia. Possibly Breyer. Conservatives would be screwed for at least a generation, and there would be no chance of getting Roe overturned.

2. That's no doubt part of it. Beyond that, I think they have a problem with the fact that Obama
exists. Period. And worse, that he sits in the Oval Office. And their obscene hatred will be our undoing. Not just Obama's.

4. Repulicans have always hated America...
just a few years ago, I had no idea of this simple fact. I could talk with them and agree to disagree. They didn't foam at the mouth and call me names. That is over now, somehow Obama being in office has emboldened them to say the crassest things and they no longer hide the fact that they are racists. They are ignorant and proud of it. They have declared all out war on the poor. I am talking about the working poor, they openly mock the working poor for wanting things like on the job safety, living wages, and health care. They act as if it is the poor that are responsible for them manufacturing the debt crisis...

5. I think it goes beyond that.
the bancrupting of America started in earnest during the * years and this pesky 4 year hiatus has pissed the PTB off to the point of

apolexy. Things were going along great until the elections came up and johnny and sarah lost.

This would be going on no matter which Democratic candidate was POTUS.

7. Agreed
I think there is still more than that, however as "it" is never just one thing and based upon the obvious disorganization of the GOP I believe there are several agendas in play.

1). The we can't stand a Democrat in the White House (some if it is he's black, but mostly it's that he is a Dem).

2). The continuation of the long slide from St. Ronnie's failed trickle down BS.

3). A chance to nail SS & Medicare, long on their wish list.

4). The put the government in the bathtub and drown it Grover plan.

5). The I got mine and if you don't look or act like me, you are not worthy, lazy, etc

And probably a whole bunch more if you start to add in Social Conservatism.........

8. oh yeah, you got that right and
if we ever had illusions of being anything but a system that was bought and paid for by the wealthiest the internet came along and

totally trashed that. Instantaneous information has changed all aspects of governance and allowed us to see behind the smoke and mirrors.

6. The Repubs are like the character in Fight Club *SPOILERS*
The main character in Fight Club thinks he's been fighting wildman daredevil Tyler Durden.

But when they play back the security video it turns out there's no Tyler Durden, just a lone man punching himself in the face.

9. It's more than that.
Your precise contention that the Tea Party (and by extension, the republican party) wants to run this country off a cliff and blame Obama -- or alternatively, add conditions that organically changes this country. Stuff like constitutional amendment to balance the budget. (Yeah, I know. Obama could veto it. The amendment may not get enough states to come on board.) But the really distressing addition to yesterday's bill is the provision where the House won't vote again to raise the debt ceiling A) in six months and B) unless the Senate passes the constitutional amendment to balance the budget. Not just vote, but enact. To make the other chamber vote with a minority in another house.

This is no longer democracy. It's more than dishonest bargaining. It's more than an unwillingness to compromise. It's extortion. And it appears this is the way it's going to be until there's another new Congress in 2013.

12. there's also that damn "super senate/super congress" that's in both boner and Reid's bills
Edited on Sat Jul-30-11 08:11 AM by ProfessionalLeftist
- it's very worrisome. It would put the country in a permanent 'hostage' situation - subject to whatever some 12-pack of gangbangers wants to foist on us - everyone else be damned.

Yes it is the Extortion form of government courtesy of the GOTealiban. You had to know they'd pull this, after all it worked so well in Dec. 2010 when they held us hostage to extort the continuance of the bu$h tax cuts. This is one BIG reason that Obama / Dems shouldn't have caved - they had the majority in BOTH houses. I guess I find it hard to believe they couldn't have done something besides cave in.

10. Either default or force Obama to invoke the 14th Amendment
in which case they rail about a power grab blah, blah, blah.
There never should have been any negotiations beyond a clean bill to raise the ceiling.
Once Obama started talking to them beyond that they had the upper hand.

15. That needs to become one of our sound bites (which we don't
utilitze!). "McConnell has stated that the primary goal of the Republican Party is to do what it takes to ensure Obama is only a one-term President."
