4. That's the OP's point.
No one will know what the "deal" is (or will be) until it's too late to do anything to change it or stop it.

14. I'm growing tired of these last minute solutions ...
they are poorly crafted and often contain items that benefit the rich and powerful while screwing the middle class (what's left of it) and the poor.

Such legislation would never get the approval of citizens if there were not an emergency.

The biggest problem we have in our nation may be the incompetence of those we elect. If they are actually competent, they serve other masters than the voters who elect them.

16. The media presents this sort of conduct
as good faith negotiation by dedicated public servants. IMO it's more like a bunch of used car dealers selling the public a lemon.

They can fill hours and hours of time on the 24/7 cable networks talking about this "crisis".

politics. It is a last resort for those who can not compete on an honest basis. The only field where fraud is not a crime, but instead is called 'charisma'.

They won't read it before they approve it just like they did the patriot act and act like WE are the ones who are morons. How are they supposed to read every bill they sign?! We pay you way too much to do something, you morons! The least you could do is READ it before you AGREE to it!

19. Theoretically, terrible legislation can always be undone. Keep that in mind over the days ahead.
I have a feeling I'm going to be clinging to that thought like a life preserver after I see what tentative legislation comes out in a rush to keep Asian markets from shitting themselves, Monday. Except Monday comes late Sunday (tomorrow) in America.

Find something with a handle and hold onto it.

28. a "flatter" tax rate?
Really? Boehner said “We had an agreement on a revenue number — a revenue number that we thought we could reach based on a flatter tax code with lower rates and a broader base that would produce more economic growth, more employees and more taxpayers, and a tax system that was more efficient” in collecting taxes."

So cut SS/Medicare AND try to get through a "flatter" tax rate? How many ways can we say "screw the poor and working class"?
