CNN Poll: Drop in liberal support pushes Obama approval rating down
Looks like cutting SS, Medicaid and Medicare isn't playing so well with the base of the Democratic Party. Whoda thunk it?

The fact of the matter is that with every capitulation, the shine is wears off President Obama. Even low-information voters are getting the message that their economic security is threatened by the pragmatic stylings of this White House. Even if the party receives all the checks in the world from Wall Street, the voters are still going to have their say.

This is just an early warning -- not that anyone should expect it to be heeded in any way.

CNN Poll: Drop in liberal support pushes Obama approval rating down

Washington (CNN) – President Barack Obama's approval rating is down to 45 percent, driven in part by growing dissatisfaction on the left with the president's track record in office, according to a new national survey.

(snip)

According to the poll, the president's 45 percent approval rating is down three points from June. Fifty-four percent of people questioned disapprove of how Obama's handling his duties, up six points from last month. His 54 percent disapproval rating ties the all-time high in CNN polling that the president initially reached just before last year's midterm elections.

"But drill down into that number and you'll see signs of a stirring discontent on the left," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "Thirty-eight percent say they disapprove because President Obama has been too liberal, but 13 percent say they disapprove of Obama because he has not been liberal enough - nearly double what it was in May, when the question was last asked, and the first time that number has hit double digits in Obama's presidency."

Looking at that figure another way, roughly one in four Americans who disapprove of the president say they feel that way because he's not been liberal enough.
Obama's approval rating among liberals has dropped to 71 percent, the lowest point in his presidency..."It's likely that this is a reaction to some of Obama's recent actions, including his willingness to discuss major changes in Social Security and Medicare as part of the debt ceiling negotiations," adds Holland.

3. looks like a minor aberration to me
from a high of 90% to 85% right now isn't much of a drop.

The average of those 10 weeks is 86.2, 85 is within the margin of error.

7. "base of the Democratic Party" um, no. This is among ALL liberals, including non-Democrats.

His approval among liberal Democrats -- the actual party base -- remains in the mid-80s.

12. well he cant win by just winning democrats
i dont care for polls that discus ideologies rather than issues because I dont think most people have coherent definitions of liberal and conservative, and that would include a good percentage of self described liberal democrats. people angered with him for being too liberal want him to raise taxes on the wealthy and protect medicare for instance.

13. This isn't new.

"I've seen it happen time after time. When the Democratic candidate allows himself to be put on the defensive and starts apologizing for the New Deal and the Fair Deal, and says he really doesn't believe in them, he is sure to lose. The people don't want a phony Democrat. If it's a choice between a genuine Republican, and a Republican in Democratic clothing, the people will choose the genuine article, every time; that is, they will take a Republican before they will a phony Democrat, and I don't want any phony Democratic candidates in this campaign."

---President Harry Truman

Gotta LOVE Harry!

"If we don't fight hard enough for the things we stand for,
at some point we have to recognize that we don't really stand for them."
