Republican governors: Prayer will solve our problems
Source: Salon

Trend alert! In the face of devastating natural disasters, Republican governors around the country are increasingly asking constituents to join in prayer to God to solve their states' intractable problems.

The latest example is Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin, who, in response to a brutal heat wave that has contributed to over one hundred wildfires, asked Oklahomans to collectively pray for rain on Sunday. From the official press release:

"I encourage Oklahomans of all faiths to join me this Sunday in offering their prayers for rain," Fallin said. "For the safety of our firefighters and our communities and the well-being of our crops and livestock, this state needs the current drought to come to an end. The power of prayer is a wonderful thing, and I would ask every Oklahoman to look to a greater power this weekend and ask for rain."

Secretary of Agriculture Jim Reese said he appreciated the governor’s call for prayer and would be saying his own this Sunday.

“Farmers across the state are really suffering under these conditions,” Reese said. “I’m glad the governor is issuing this call to prayer, and I hope it helps deliver the rain we need soon.”

1. I encourage them in this approach.
In particular, I trust they will be willing to donate their political contributions to charity in favor of encouraging their followers to pray for their electoral success.

3. Prayer? Okay. Change our wasteful habits?
I'm guessing the answer would be a resounding "Hell NO!" Because otherwise Al Gore would win.

9. "Lord Jebus, hear my prayer:"
"We're hurtin' down here, Jebus. It hasn't rained for a long time, so we're just asking that you look down on our state and send some rain. Not too much, mind you. We don't need some sort of flood, so we're holding you to that promise not to do that any more. And, while you're at it, I'm sensing a growing dissatisfaction among the people of my state with my incompetent leadership and my poor attitude toward the working people of this state. So, if you could just get rid of my detractors and those liberal socialist Democrats who keep saying I'm doing a bad job, that would be helpful, along with that rain. Lord knows, I deserve some help. I've been very faithful at telling people that You have a plan for the world and that they need to accept that plan, along with running the damned homosexuals out of our state. Also, my campaign contributions are going down, so if you could put it in the sorry-assed hearts of the people of this state to send me more money, I'd be better able to tell the citizens that you don't want the filthy communist do-gooders to be in charge. And then, dear Jebus, there is the problem with the children, ungrateful wretches that they are. If you can imagine this, they expect us to educate them and make sure they survive their childhood by feeding and caring for them when they're sick. If you'd just make their welfare-grabbing parents get a job and pay their own way, that would be a boon to me..

For Christ's Sake!

AMEN!

14. Frankly, it is better to read the bloody entrails of a sacrificed Oxen.
Prayer is soooo 3000 BC. There have been advancements in superstitious reasoning that can take us well into the bronze age.

The collective intelligence of the GOP appears to be approaching the abilities of a Dunce or an Idiot.

:silly: Neighbor lady says the reason it hasn't rain here in San Antonio is because the Rev. John C. Hagee hasn't prayed for it.

Well WHY THE HELL NOT!

24. I heard a loud prayer a few seconds ago. Does me stomach feel better.
Pray that dumb assed Fallin embrace science instead of continuing to be an obstinate buffoon.
