Too Good, Too Smart, Too Able for Wall Street Approval - Ralph Nader
http://www.commondreams.org/further/2011/07/17

Statement by Ralph Nader on the rejection of Elizabeth Warren by President Barack Obama to be the Director of the new Consumer Financial Regulatory Bureau.

To dump Elizabeth Warren, the most qualified, most motivated and most articulate candidate for the directorship of the Consumer Financial Regulatory Bureau is an act of political cowardliness by President Obama and a boon to anti-consumer Republicans and their corporate paymasters in Wall Street.

Elizabeth Warren apparently is just too good, too smart, and too able to arouse the just concerns of millions of American families about the need to put the law-and-order wood to the corporate criminals, defrauders and reckless speculators with the savings and pensions of millions of Americans.

President Obama should realize that his back-of-the-hand attitude to his liberal and progressive supporters – who sent him to the White House – can have consequences. He believes they have no where to go. But they do. They can stay home in 2012, as so many did in 2010 to the detriment of the Democrats and many Congressional races.

29. Ralph Nader supporters should have formed a Tea Party and run for local offices
And then they could've taken over congress just like the Teavangelists have, but Nader was only interested in running for President.

In short, fuck Nader.

31. So intelligent and accurate! I am simply stunned by the eloquence.
Simple truncated statements of disdain or adulation, and the use of brevity, that explain the reality of ones' opinion and the totality of reality to the universe are the pinnacle and acme of American culture now - see Twitter and Facebook.

You have done it well.

28. Seeing how Warren told Obama she would set up the agency, but didn't want to run it,
looks like Nader is talking out of his ass again.

Must be time to shake the tress for a few dollars from the gullible that still believe Nader isn't anything more than a cottage industry.

Fuck Ralph Nader, anti-union scab employer.

He bailed on Van Jones, and Dean that must of left her feeling good.

35. Warren never wanted it to begin with.
Both she and Obama knew she'd never get confirmed, and Warren herself didn't want a long-term stay in Washington.

That came out over a year ago.

It was discussed here.

Warren herself never stated she wanted to be considered head of the agency, many just assumed that she wanted it.

6. What's wrong with the guy who was appointed?
Edited on Sun Jul-17-11 05:47 PM by The Velveteen Ocelot
The guy who was hand-picked by Elizabeth Warren and who has a reputation as a dedicated consumer advocate? Is Nader claiming nobody on earth other than Warren is capable of doing the job? Does he claim she should have had it even though she has indicated she didn't want a permanent appointment?

"Warren, who hand-picked Cordray to serve in the agency shortly after his loss in last November's elections, expressed support for his selection.

"Rich has always had my strong support because he is tough and he is smart-and that's exactly the combination this new agency needs," she said. "He was one of the first senior leaders I recruited for the agency, and his work and commitment have made it clear that he will make a stellar director.""

Fuck Ralph Nader. For many reasons.

9. There's nothing wrong with him. What's wrong is that
once again, when Republicans scream, Democrats back down.

And what will Democrats do when Republicans carry out their threat to block THIS nomination?

When do they draw a line in the sand?

Republicans have already announced their intention to block ANY nomination until they get the power of this agency diminished.

However, since they still don't control the Senate, they will have to use the filibuster to get their way, assuming all Senate Dems support this nomination.

Will Democrats give in and weaken this agency as demanded by Republicans, who have stated they do not want a single director, they want a board and they want Congress to have the right to defund the agency.

What now? Apparently the President can nominate Cordray, and Republicans will throw another tantrum.

What Nader is saying is that somewhere, someday, Democrats have to start fighting!

21. Temper! Temper! DUers! I proudly voted for Nader in 2000.
Because Al Gore was a founding member of the DLC. I thought there was little difference between him and George W Bush.

And I was right, too. OK. That's just my opinion. But we will never know.

Now. Let's conduct an experiment and see how many read past my first two sentences before going ballistic. Richard Cordray is a great choice! That's right. I live in Ohio. Cordray has a long, long record of being an attack dog for ordinary people. The Chamber of Commerce HATES this man. Walmart HATES this man. Wall Street HATES this man.

For good reason. He's a great choice for regulator. DUers, this is the first time you have ever seen me say this: Kudos for Obama! That's right. Great choice, dude!

Now back him up, Barack. Or is this just more smoke and mirrors? Time will answer that question.

Yeah, "to the detriment" of Russ Feingold and Alan Grayson.

Fuck off Ralph!

On edit: Elizabeth Warren can speak for herself.
