How bad could things get? Well, in January 1933, the national adult unemployment rate in the U.S. was 25%. That's 1 out of 4 working-age adults unable to find work. Right now, the national adult unemployment rate is just shy of 10%, so the coming round of austerity and budget cutting has a lot of room to make things even worse.
