First, they changed the language...then they came for us!
George Orwell looking down at us from a puffy observation cloud, must realize now that "1984" hardly touched the surface of what could happen. In the book, there is an obvious form of oppression, and totalitarian government, which allows Winston and others to escape from it.

Nowadays in the US, we have been slowly boiled like the proverbial frog, under the guise of Freedom and Democracy. And it all started with a subversion of language. Calling extremist radicals "conservatives", calling the crime against humanity committed on September 11th 2001 an "act of war", calling anti choice people "pro life" or "anti abortion", calling Social Security and Medicare insurances "entitlements".
And now everyone is doing it from Rachel Maddow to Obama.

These twists of language have become accepted and thus, everything we read or hear becomes propaganda, until regular citizens are happy to act against their own self interest, and against the very things they are supposed to be defending, such as Freedom and Democracy.

Can we ever reverse this trend, without going through a major political, economic, and natural cataclysm?
Maybe voting for Perry/Bachmann instead of Obama will bring the water to a quick boil, and finally people will wake up...I am kidding, but I do think Obama is a Republican Conservative, and helps with this illusion of change just around the corner which never comes...thus opening the door to a true and accepted plutocracy, something I never thought I'd see in my lifetime!

3. He makes Eisenhower look like a pinkno commie
Obama is to the right of Nixon, and Bush I as well. I wouldn't call him a batshit crazy Republican, but he could be, by historical context, viewed as a conservative, Barry Goldwater style Republican.

4. I saw this coming several years ago
On another board that was about 75% RWers. One of the MOST RW, a proto teabagger/fascist type, began calling himself a "moderate". I knew then this was the new tactic.

That's one of the reason I want to UNdemonize the word socialist and even Communist and Marxist. It would be the obvious resistance to this tactic.

7. Yep. WTF? They were part of the rebranding too
Personally, I think it was in concert (conspiracy?) WITH the RW in order to marginalize the voices on the REAL left as "fringe". It worked as far as the NAMES go, but I'm not sure it did as far as the POLICIES go. Those "fringe" policies are STILL supported by a large majority of the American people.
