Progessive Groups Launch Massive DC Protest October 2011
Peace, environmental, social justice activists launch massive peaceful demonstration beginning October 6, 2011.

OPEN LETTER: THE U.S. OCTOBER 2011 MOVEMENT STANDS IN SOLIDARITY WITH OUR GLOBAL ALLIES
Inspired by the courageous, nonviolent uprisings in Tunisia, Egypt, Bahrain, Yemen, Greece, Spain, and elsewhere, people in the United States have come together to form the October2011 Movement. This fusion of peace, social justice, environmental, student, and immigrant rights organizations is in solidarity with all who seek a peaceful, just, and sustainable future and stands ready to engage in its own campaign of nonviolent resistance beginning in Washington, D.C., this October.

1. Cool. However, I object to their grabbing my Facebook
profile and filling out their form that way. I'm not sure how they did that, but I don't like it one bit. I consider it a violation of my privacy.

2. I can only
apologize even though I had nothing to do with it. I am only a foot soldier in this and at the bottom of the totem poll. Furthermore, I'm not into Facebook, Twitter, etc. I do read and post at DU fairly regularly and I admire your work. :hi:

4. No need to apologize. It's getting very common for sites to do
that. I don't like it, though. I suppose it's a convenience for some visitors. However, learning that they already had my email address is a bit alarming. I expect I'll see stuff coming from them now in my email. Not every site on the Internet needs to pull every bit of data on me it can find. I really can fill out forms for myself.

I hope this event has a good turnout.

5. It's a service provided by facebook
If you enable your forms to be FB friendly, then facebook will fill in the stuff for you. They didn't go read your facebook account, they have a facebook widget on the page that because it is actually part of facebook, it interacts with FB servers, and can fill in the form for you.

Makes me wonder what one could do with it and an invisible form.

6. I know. And you're right. They could easily collect the information
on each visitor to the site, without that visitor's permission. I'm going to Facebook to see if I can disable this "feature."

I spend very little time on Facebook, and I'm considering dropping it altogether. I would have done it before, but some of my relatives use Facebook messages as their only email, so I'd miss out on that information.

10. I *think* all you have to do is log out of FB
You might have to purge their cookies also.
