Repubs want the President to take ownership of all the debt...
Mitch McConnell has said as much. They do not want to take blame for any of this debt. They want the President to veto their debt limit bill, knowing they cannot over-ride his veto, and give him full ownership if the economy collapses. It's a cowardly act.

But someone should point out just who created this debt? Starting with Ronald Reagan, the entire national debt was less than $1 trillion dollars. That was after all the World Wars, the New Deal, the Great Society, the Vietnam War, etc. But Reagan tripled the original debt of 1980. Bush the First doubled the original debt. Bill Clinton took the debt down every year he was in office but he still gets charged with the leftover Bush and Reagan debt. Then Bush Jr quintupled the original debt and left Barack Obama with a national debt right at $11 trillion dollars. It was about $5 1/2 trillion when he took office. Barack Obama has tripled the original national debt but his adding to the last Bush deficit totals less than $1 trillion dollars. So the bottom line is that the Republicans have added about $12 trillion of the present $14 trillion dollar debt. And they want Barack Obama to take ownership of it all...

1. Reagan and Bush 41 ran the debt from $1 trillion to $5 trillion.

Bush II ran the national debt from $5.4 trillion to $12 trillion. Republicans are responsible for the vast majority of the nations public debt.

5. So do it, and let the Dubya tax cuts end.
Use some of the revenues to start paying down the debt. Get a Dem House and Senate in 2012 and raise tax rates on the rich and corporations and further pay down the debt. At least show a budget surplus -- as Clinton did.
