$3.42
That's as low as the price per gallon of gas got in my neighborhood after the announcement that 60,000,000 barrels of oil would be released from the Strategic Petroleum Reserves. Well, so much for that.

Indeed, I saw no discernible effect except a panic sell on the announcement. That got the price down to $90 a barrel. That didn't last long at all as within a week the price was back up to $97 per barrel. As of this posting, the price has risen to $98.54, a mere buck and a half from the $100.

The age of cheap oil and economic growth is over.

Today, the price of gas in my neighborhood has risen to $3.60.

1. So you don't like the net 40 cent drop in pump prices?
You're wacky.

That drop represents billions of dollars spent on products and services other than oil.

2. First of all, I didn't say anything close to that. And what's even more fucked up is
Edited on Wed Jul-13-11 02:12 PM by CleanGreenFuture
that you are using your own delusion to imply that I'm the one who's wacky.

You mean to tell me that I can't even talk about the price of gas without turning someone sideways over some stupid self-conceived notions on your part?

Why does everything here have to end in an argument?

Edited to add: And another thing, when I'm digging in the sofa cushions for fucking lost change trying to scrape together enough for a gallon of gas to go to work, I'm not really thinking about how that net drop in prices "represents billions of dollars spent on products and services other than oil". Nope. I'm thinking about how I'm going to get to fucking work!

I apologize for reacting to what I assumed was yet another bash Obama post. If that's not the case, just ignore me.

That said, I do think releasing the oil reserves was a good move and I'm glad to paying less for gas than I was a month ago. IMO Obama should do it again, very soon.

3. It got down to $3.21 here in central Arkansas. Now back up to $3 .49 or
higher (I haven't checked today!). This is killing our tourism driven local businesses. With the extreme heat so far this summer it is not pleasant. We need help! There should be electric cars and hybrids all over the roads but these solutions are not being pushed....by anyone.

5. I filled up yesterday. And at the BP, one of the cheapest,
I paid $3.56 per gallon. When the price got to over $40, I stopped pumping. Fortunately, I am retired and do not drive too much and only have to fill up about once every month. I am glad I do not have to drive to work and back, otherwise, I would be paying at least $80 per week.

6. I'm getting as low as $3.96 at my local Costco....
Still over $4 at most local retail stations though. Northern California.

8. I filled up this morning and paid $3.83 a gallon
for premium at Safeway in southern Anne Arundel County, Maryland. It's better than the $4.15 I was paying a few weeks ago. Fortunately I get a week's worth of commuting from home to the metro station and running errands on a tank of gas. For me a tank equals 13 gallons.

9. I paid $3.50 in Los Angeles...
And we pay extra for our anti-smog version of gas. That's down nearly a buck. I'm happy.
