2. Does this mean that the Brits are going to have to learn
to put up with boring old facts again in their news instead of juicy, lurid hyped scandals and political disinformation?

Can civilization survive the onslaught of actual information?

3. Let's hope he has to do the same here in the USA.
Apparently, one of his companies involved in the British scandal was an American based company.

5. They're after him.
Fortunately for him, though unfortunately for us, he's a US citizen, and they can't compel him to come foreward to testify as to the actions of his corp(se)oration.

8. My hope is that Democrats are following this closely
as this can help them immensely.

Then again, knowing Murdoch and how snaky he is, he probably bought and
blackmailed both sides of the fence.

We will see, Hello Nancy how are you doing lately?

What's the saying that revenge is a dish served cold, is that right?

our newspapers ceased to be profitable some years ago. It is pay tv which is the cash cow and hence his interest in BSkyB - just a commercial decision.......you'd have to be paranoid to think it had political motives over here.

The only reason I'd miss any of our papers is that I'd have to find an alternative for lining the cat's litter trays.

9. Maybe he'll be so disappointed at all this that he'll throw up his hands
and say Fuck this shit - sell all his holdings and retire to an island in the Aegean. He could probably buy one from Greece at a bargain basement price.

Rupert Murdoch and his tight-knit group of advisers at News Corp. have put a variety of strategic options on the table as they attempt to stem the fallout from a scandal and map out a future for their businesses, according to people familiar with the situation.

One idea contemplated in recent weeks is an option Mr. Murdoch has long shot down: selling his other British newspapers. News Corp. has informally explored whether there were any potential buyers for its U.K. newspaper unit, News International, according to people familiar with the matter. The unit, which includes the Sun, the Times of London, the Sunday Times and—until this week's closing—News of the World, was once one of Mr. Murdoch's flagship divisions and one of his favorites.

Given the poor economics of the newspaper business, there didn't appear to be any buyers, according to these people. It is possible that News Corp. could revisit the idea of selling or spinning off News International in the next six months, one of the people familiar with the matter said.

18. He's abandoned the BSkyB bid for now
Not clear what else is happening. He has been *considering* selling his British papers for a while, and going more into TV media here, and papers/other media abroad. This is mainly because print media is not nearly as good business in Britain as it used to be; though the scandal probably isn't helping.

We shall see what happens. Murdoch and his gang are pretty rough and tough, and I wouldn't assume they're dead and buried yet.

24. I've heard some pundits say that the newspaper business is dead and it is sound
business practice for Murdoch to get out of it and concentrate on tv and movies. So it isn't as if he is hurting himself much by doing it.
