Now, Tea party members in Florida shout their opposition to manatee protection.

Tea party members tackle a new issue: manatees

By Craig Pittman, Times Staff Writer
July 13, 2011

.....

"We cannot elevate nature above people," explained Edna Mattos, 63, leader of the Citrus County Tea Party Patriots, in an interview. "That's against the Bible and the Bill of Rights." ..... Last week, Mattos, who says she has 800 members signed up on her group's website, and other tea party members picketed outside a public hearing on the new rules. Because they weren't allowed to bring their signs inside, she said, "my anger took over" and she sent a sharply worded e-mail to thousands of tea party members across Florida, urging them to write to Congress to block the Fish and Wildlife Service.

.....

"We believe that (federal regulators') aim is to control the fish and wildlife, in addition to the use of the land that surrounds this area, and the people that live here and visit. … As most of us know, this all ties in to the United Nations' Agenda 21 and Sustainability."

Agenda 21 is a program, adopted by the U.N. in 1992, to encourage countries around the world to promote only development that does not harm nature. Pundit Glenn Beck and other conservatives have attacked it as an attempt to impose world government's rules on every aspect of American lives. The Citrus County tea party group's website says Agenda 21 is "designed to make humans into livestock."

Mattos said she enjoys showing off the manatees to her grandchildren, but she had little use for the Save the Manatee Club, explaining, "If some of these environmental movements had been around in the days of the dinosaurs, we'd be living in Jurassic Park now."

You'd think they'd tire of hearing themselves talk. Or perhaps they have and just don't bother to listen to themselves anymore.

Maybe then they would learn to modify their thinking.

But then, I think all the animals in the Garden were our friends back then. I would have to assume that includes the dinosaurs. It wasn't until Eve killed her a b'ar (when she was only three) to use to cover the cold linoleum that the cute and cuddly little woodland creatures started getting a little testy with us. Something like that.

3. Someone better equipped logically needs to explain this.
How does protecting manatees translate into elevating nature above people?

I'm throwing out the "it's against the Bible part" for obvious reasons, but it's against the Bill of Rights? What? Where in the Bill of Rights is the Supremacy of Man over Nature (TM) guaranteed?

Nevermind. I've given up trying to see reason of any sort in these individuals. I'm also leaving alone the fact that DINOSAURS AND HOMO SAPIENS DID NOT INHABIT THE PLANET AT THE SAME EFFING TIME.

30. No. This is a naive view. Their religion is about the complete subduing and control of the female.
That means, women, nature, and chaos. They want a rigid, boxed-in life where they can control what comes in and what goes out of their box. Control vs. Chaos. Yang vs. Yin. The bible seeks to subdue all things related to the Yin Principle. That is where this is all rooted.

The Romans were similar in their need to dominate and control nature and the course of things.

28. Oh the hu-manatee!
Manatees are taking our freeeeedoms! I wish they would just stay out of our lives.

Its always a wonder to me how idiots manage to disassociate people from nature. We ARE nature; the human species depends on nature. I suppose that goes hand in hand with Mattos "reasoning" about the dinosaurs.

Of course, human destruction of the environment was all part of God's plan!

Leviticus 25:23-24 - The land must not be sold permanently, because the land is mine and you are but aliens and my tenants. Throughout the country that you hold as a possession, you must provide for the redemption of the land

Jeremiah 2:7 - I brought you into a fertile land to eat its fruit and rich produce. But you came and defiled my land and made my inheritance detestable.

29. The question is
What is the place of the "ascendant" species in its own hierarchy?

Are they avoiding the question of stewardship of the Earth? There is no question of that role in many indigenous cultures where the tribes see themselves in relationship to their environment rather than opposed to it or existing to merely exploit it. Being here to take care of the planet is not a new idea and it makes perfect sense when you consider the observable effects we see of avoiding the ramifications of polluting without concern for the extreme and long-term impact on flora and fauna.

Putting Humanity above nature does not automatically equal a license to foul and destroy it. In fact, it begs the question as to how our species fits into the scheme of life itself since we find ourselves here and very much dependent on the ecosystem. That is, especially when we see the modern, false paradigm of profit/capitalism/corporatism exploit Judao-Christian dogma in order to justify its massively destructive and disruptive agenda.

All religious speculation aside, what does a truly intelligent species do when it comes to its own, long-term survival and continuation in large numbers?

49. Of course we are
But we don't want to be. That's the point. Just like the big corporations that write the rules which govern them, that's what we try to do in relation to the environment that we exist in. We don't like the limits that nature has for us. We don't like regulations. We want to privatize the profits of the planet for the benefit of a single species while socializing the costs to the rest of life.
