Big pickups clog dealer lots, concern analysts

DETROIT (Reuters) - Big pickup trucks are clogging many U.S. dealer lots, causing headaches for General Motors Co and other automakers, and raising concerns about price wars and lower profits later in the year.

GM has garnered much of the attention for its inventory of Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra full-size trucks that stood at 122 days at the end of June. That's about 50 percent higher than the 80 days typically preferred and above the industry's still-hefty average of 99 days, according to Ward's Auto.

Chrysler Group LLC and Toyota Motor Corp also lag at 93 days' supply, while Ford Motor Co stood at 79, Ward's said.

"Clearly most manufacturers overestimated the kind of demand we were going to get for full-size trucks in the first half," said analyst Jesse Toprak with online car-buying research website TrueCar. .............(more)

4. I think the concerned analysts should
throw a big party with the shocked economists.

Of course, the blissfully ignorant would be welcome.

6. Think how shocked they'd be when they got the invitations, since they never saw them coming.
They never seem to see anything coming.

5. our 1 ton 2006 Dodge mega cab gets 25 mph on the highway
Edited on Fri Jul-08-11 09:36 AM by newfie11
We have looked at getting something smaller but anything big enough to haul 4 newfoundland dogs to shows comes no where near this mileage. I am told after 2006 the MPG have dropped in dodge. Our 2002 1 ton ford crew cab (we live on a farm) gets 21mpg but my son in law has a 2010 and is lucky to get 14.

Our friends were in a horrible wreck and their 2003 1 ton dodge was totaled. They were told by a dealer that they will never get that mileage with the new dodges. They were also getting 25.

All the above are diesel

7. But the F series and Silverado are still the
hottest selling vehicles in the country, with almost a 10% gain over last year, and Dodge pickups have really picked up. Not that many econoboxes on this list:
