Dog befriends orphaned deer - pic
awwwww.....

A dog called "Shura" licks an orphaned roe deer it has befriended in the Simferopol zoo in Crimea June 2011. The deer was found close to its dead mother in a local forest.

9. Collie-Shepherd. Female.

Both breeds tend to be protective of young animals when not deliberately hunting. Just love 'em. I've raised and trained German Shepherds. The bitches are especially alert to when young children are in danger. Same for Collies, they are a shepherding dog. They will steer children away from busy streets, or follow them if they wander off and protect them.

It's natural that they have a tendency to look after any young mammals.

18. Haha.... I used to have two pit bulls and told everyone at work how sweet they were
and how they gave me so many kisses all the time. A co-worker said "they're just trying to get the wrapper off."

14. So cute.
That reminded me of a sanctuary on Maui nicknamed "The Boo Boo Zoo." They care for injured and orphaned wildlife as well as domestic and farm animals.

Sent me a pic of a large Persian cat and baby deer cuddling, once.

Interesting back story. In 1977 the wife had terminal cancer and when she began caring for an injured bird she felt better, so hubby started bringing home more animals. Now it's a large rehab center, and she's still alive and kicking!
