1. A SMART Party would ride this accomplishment nationwide...
...as a sign of its moderation and common-sense.

Unfortunately, the national Republican Party isn't smart.

2. NY Republicans may be assholes, but they're nothing compared to OK and MS Reps.
And when you add it up, we got four votes out of their 32, of which one is actually a Democrat who ran as a Rep, and the others being in moderate urban and suburban districts.

I wouldn't overestimate what is possible with a majority of national Republicans.

5. Cuomo's powerful
Andrew Cuomo was elected governor by HUGE margins, in an election year where Democrats were eviscerated everywhere else in the country. I'm sure these four Republicans all want to be on his good side. Plus social conservatism isn't as big in NY as the "heartland", and polls showed pretty good support for it.

It's a no brainer for a Republican who is in any kind of swing district.
