Cigarette Health Warnings

Beginning September 2012, FDA will require larger, more prominent cigarette health warnings on all cigarette packaging and advertisements in the United States. These warnings mark the first change in cigarette warnings in more than 25 years and are a significant advancement in communicating the dangers of smoking.

1. Death Cigarettes were doing that 20 years ago in the UK.
Slogans on the packaging and promotional materials included phrases such as "Let Us Be The Nail In Your Coffin" and "The Grim Reaper Don't Come Cheaper".

4. I only knew about them
because they were only sold through vending machines and I dealt with a company who leased the machines out.

Yes we do have a sublime sense of humor.

3. I dont know, I think its over the top
Are there really smokers that don't know smoking is dangerous anymore? Yeah, 50 years ago I could see this because people thought smoking wasnt harmful. Kids aren't going to care about a label, they are smoking because they want to fit in. Adults know it can kill them. It just seems to me like this is a waste of effort.

I've always liked the Italian approach, in big BOLD letters just have a sticker saying "Il fumo uccide" (Smoking kills)
