I for one think there is nothing wrong with the DU.......
Sure, there are posters that make me mad at times. Just like people at work make me mad at times. Just like Ed Schultz makes me mad at times and Lawrence O'donnell makes me mad at times. And Obama makes me mad at times.

But I still keep my job, I still watch MSNBC and I still plan to vote for Obama!

Many posters here have made me see a different point of view about many topics. If all the posters agreed with me 100% then I think the DU would not be serving it's purpose and would be boring as hell. I am sure I am wrong on some topics and I am sure they are wrong on some topics. The truth is somewhere in the middle! But I am not going to leave the DU over a disagreement!

I have had a few posts locked or deleted. I think most of them were legitimate but some I do not think are fair. But the Mods have a really tough job and I respect their opinon. Do you 100% agree with every call a refree makes in a football game? Neither do I. But I am not going to leave the DU over something like a locked/deleted post.

Some posters think Obama is perfect. Some posters think he is disappointment. The truth is somewhere in the middle. But just because I have a different opinion than other posters does not mean I need to leave the DU.

I am sure there is a wide range of disagreement on many "progressive" topics on the DU. Like abortion, unions, immigration, gun control, religion, Obama, Taxes, Etc. That does not mean the DU is broken. I means that even being a "progressive" means different things to diferent people. That does not mean I need to leave the DU because everyone does not agree with me.

This is the first place I go when there is big breaking news! That is because I value the opinions of many people here and know I will hear many different points of views.

I love this place and would miss it everyday if it was not here.

2. Basically the "system" is broken....
some of us are waking up to this fact ...some of have been awake for quite awhile...and some of us simply refuse to wake up.

DU merely reflects this.

3. Since I am assuming it's part of your "Etc.", what about equal rights
for everyone?

As a straight woman, there is something wrong with DU when so many posters can not help take up the fight for what should not be a mere topic, issue, or "etc.". Therein lies the problem.

8. Understood. In my eyes, it's not a topic. It shouldn't be an issue.

That is what (for me) is VERY wrong with DU.

Edited for: clarity

I quit the DU.

19. I don't think many people are quitting. I think they are, rightfully, pissed off.
And I have seen far too many people here have their quitting done for them when they don't always follow the leader.

26. You assume that some posters here are not in favor of equal rights for all.
I just don't see that.

Every poster may not have their priorities in the same order as every other poster, but I think every non-troll poster here is in favor of equal rights for everyone.

I personally would rather be rich without some equal rights than poor with them, because in such a crass, materialist world that is America, money trumps everything . . . but that in no way means that civil rights struggles aren't important and the core of what we believe.

29. I do see it. I will state til I am blue in the face, the fact that it is "prioritized" at
all is enough to make me sick. Civil rights struggles come before all else. It really is that simple and it's really okay to question a Dem administration about it.

32. Is health care a "right"? I believe it is, since without health, one has no
right to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."

So what is more important?

Health care or some other right?

Answer: they both are important. So, if one argues that some other right is more important than the ones I think are important, they are wrong.

All rights are important.

35. As an uninsured, I can say this... Equal rights for all above all else.
It really is that simple. Civil rights over all. It shouldn't even been an issue, but there it is.

9. the constant bashing of Democrats in office is a bit much
Edited on Sun Jun-19-11 12:12 PM by Motown_Johnny
Blanket statements about how there is no difference between the parties and how our guys always cave get in the way of actual discussions.

These statements are seldom backed up with any facts and just serve to demoralize many of us here who are trying to stay optimistic.

The rules here make it hard to confront the people making the posts. To dispute the blanket statements we need to reply with empirical facts that prove the statements wrong. These not only take longer to research and post but they don't have the same emotional impact as simply slinging mud. They also tend to be responded to with more mud slinging about how none of that is good enough.

I think we need some way of calling out people who's posts serve no useful purpose other than to attack elected Democrats.

I would suggest calling them an Eeyor and posting a pic for them, something like this...

But under the current rules this could get me banned, and I like/love this place too.

11. DU is not the problem. DU is a forum. The problem is all our politicians are prostitutes to corps
There's no other way to run for office. Just to run for political office, people have to bend over to corporations in order to get funds to compete with the other candidates (who also are bent over trying to get corporate funds to run for office).

Our politicians are whores, sold to the highest corporate bidders.

17. Neither do I......
I can peruse a line or two of text on a post and decide whether or not
I want to continue reading. There is no one making me read this or that.

In a lot of ways posting here on DU is like art and the poster an artist.

Anyone who takes the time to put themselves up here, well, I respect
that act....but like all other arts...sometimes a post just isn't my taste.

My mind can be changed, though. So keep on doing your thing. We are here.

20. Speaking as someone who's been here long but posted little
My opinion is that what people miss is the small-community feeling from when there were a lot fewer people. But things change, more people join, and a bigger diversity of opinions are here now. That's how it goes.

22. Me too. And, I have been around a long time. 2003
I just avoid many of the cranky abrasive posts or comments.

I love the variety but I am not going to let a forum bum me out.

I love DU and yeah we don't all agree. So what. Critical thinking and having different perspectives makes us better people.

So, live long and prosper DU and everyone you little Duers out there.

XO
