who wouldn't let Breitbart within 10 feet of them.

36. I don't think the farm animals consented to Breitbarts advances upon them. Also, I heard an

unsubstantiated report that Breitbart was twittering pics of his syphilitic genitals to sheep and goat farms in 13 states.

7. Weiner is doing the right thing.
Would that Reeps who have done far worse than Weiner (or Edwards) did were
held to a standard that would force them to resign or under criminal
investigation and charges.

10. Good. He didn't really want to be in Congress anyways...
or else he wouldn't have let himself get so distracted by internet relationships and sending pictures of his shlong.

Hopefully someone more focused on helping the citizens of New York will get in there.

14. I hope he is able to to continue to get the help he need
and is able to have a happy life with both his wife and their child.

It's obvious that he has some kind of illness, the Beltway is not a place to heal form such an affliction.
Maybe in time he can reenter politics or perhaps he finds something else he enjoys doing.
He has been an outstanding Congressman and public servant, I will miss him.

15. My guess his motivation is not as obvious as imagined.
Not because of his "shame".
Not because of pressure from Nancy Pelosi, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, members of his party, members of the republican party, or even Obama.

It's simply to protect his wife and his family. Weiner knows he can't protect his wife, pregnant with their first child, from the cruel and relentless media who will hound her instead of him. To punish her for not leaving him and to punish him for not resigning. Nobody would wish the curse of media upon their worst enemy.

25. Repugs and DLC corporate lovin' conservadems will be quite pleased
meanwhile, repug politicians can keep on keeping on after having ACTUAL sex with people they aren't married to. It's not even a double standard standard anymore; it's something far worse and some people here are promoting it.

32. We MISSED an opportunity to have a GOP Senator go down WITH HIM.
A week ago I started a thread to urge DUers to start a campaign to urge Democrats to agree that
Weiner might have to go FOR THE VERY SAME REASONS that GOP Sen. Vitter should go.
But all DUers could do is quibble and YAK, YAK, YAK and argue that we shouldn't or couldn't do that.
Why can't DUers ever seem to be DOERS, instead of just YAKKERS?
If we had done that LAST WEEK, we might be getting one fewer GOP U.S. Senators!

34. It's hard for me to agree, because...
I don't think either should "go down" for legal personal relationships.
But yes, there is a double-standard, and DEMS are ALWAYS on the harsher side of the standard. And we've go no one but ourselves to blame.

Edited on Thu Jun-16-11 11:36 AM by fascisthunter
and don't pretend it didn't happen. They wanted him OUT for facetious reasons...

He was so fucking great that his own constituency wanted him to stay. THAT'S democracy... what the leadership did was ignore his constituency and they got rid of one more progressive liberal. It's no secret this admin and the leadership itself are conservative corporate hacks.

38. He must've decided to do this days ago. Maybe that's why
Pelosi backed off calling for his resignation a while ago. Looks like we're back to having to win 25 seats in the house. This is a total cave on the part of Wiener and the Party.
