Sign here to tell Obama to put solar in White House. He said he would do it by spring.

From an email I got this morning:

There hasn't been much for environmentalists to cheer about when it comes to federal action to combat climate change.

But back in October of 2010, we did win a small, but symbolically important victory. The Obama Administration committed to install solar panels and a solar hot water heater on the White House by spring of 2011, following an ongoing campaign by our friends at 350.org.1

1. You obviously don't understand the permitting process in DC.

Say they started the design when Obama made the announcement on Oct 5, 2010. The system has to be designed, the project bid, and a contractor selected. It will need approvals from DC, the Architect of the Capitol, historic boards, and a security review by the Secret Service. Before work can begin, all workers will need to pass a security clearance. Even if all of those are fast-tracked (using contractors with clearances in place), I would not expect to see the panels until 12-18 months.

2. I'm not saying they will get it done this spring. I'm saying that he made

a promise which he has yet to keep. The petition is to get him off of his ass on this one.

3. Is he going to install them himself? Will they appear by magic?

Rather than an idiotic petition, why not email the WH and ask for the status of the solar panel project?

5. and that is true. Projects don't happen overnight. Projects in DC take longer.

Projects in buildings that are historically important take longer. Projects that have security requirements take even longer. To pretend Obama hasn't keep that promise is disingenuous.
