A Salute to fine :sarcasm: A Letter to the Editor in my Paper today
24-hour wait

The last time I checked, abortion was legal in this country. But you'd never know it from the slings and arrows hurled at doctors and practitioners who provide this procedure for women, and the curses directed at women who legally choose to end a pregnancy — each for their own personal reason.

As for N.C. legislators who believe a 24-hour wait and required counseling are beneficial, I would like to suggest: Wars and warfare are legal, too, in this country, but I oppose those. It seems it'd be beneficial if we require politicians to sit and ponder for 24 hours before wading into wars, as well as receive required counseling before sending the troops out.

4. And put a couple more requirements on those politicians eager for war:
Make them watch videos of bloody broken bodies.
Make them listen to their doctor reading them some appropriate excerpts from Twain, Thoreau, New Testament, and so on.
Make them drive eight hours one way and then stay in a motel for two days and walk through a screaming, threatening crowd before they're allowed to vote for war.
Make them listen to screeds about how evil they are and about how voting for war will make them get breast cancer and become impotent, even though there is no evidence for those claims.
I'm sure you can think of a few more perfectly appropriate things.

5. My own best one maybe would be:
Make them stand in a town square without shade but with many bottles of water by their sides because we are humane and water costs little.
Then make them read the names of the dead in Iraq.
Starting with the Iraqi civilians.
Then the Americans.
Then the names of the survivors of torture in Abu Ghraib.
And have them alternate after 5 hrs. A new reader after that. And make them stand and watch, in the shade until it is their turn again.
24-8 =16 hours a day

The ones waiting for their new turn, or even no new turn if there are enough eager for war politicians in attendance, cannot leave or amuse themselves with each other in any way including conversation.

And there is no audience of any kind.

I hope you can groove with a scenario like that.

The only wish I have is that Bush and Cheney and Rumsfeld and Rice would be in dunking booths. The ones who get so bored with just standing there can dump them into boiling water with well aimed balls.

Does this work for you, too?
